I decided I wanted a project so I ordered the K&N SRI for my 2k7 I4 Camry.
I went in pretty subjective and just wanting to start and finish the project (I've always loved cars but never really had the opportunity to work on them). At any rate, so yeah, my motivation was the project for the sake of the project so I wasn't compelled to feel an increase in performance if it wasn't there.
Installation was straight forward and uneventful. The included directions are very well done and have photos for each step (not illustrations, actual photos).
The PDF is online at K&N if you care to look.
After install I drove around trying to pick out any difference in the rpm range. Maybe I feel something at 3500+, maybe I don't, I can't really tell for sure. The whole sensory thing with extra sound, etc. I'm sure plays a large part. Not to mention the fact that I'm really pushing the car in to rpms I typically don't drive at.
A couple days after installation I had TSB EG036-07 applied.
I drove the car for another 3 weeks and ya know, it really did feel like there was a nice little difference. In an attempt to confirm I decided to revert to the stock intake and see how the car felt.
So, this last weekend that was my project and it was out with the new and in with the old.
To my surprise the performance felt the same. The K&N did give the car a bit different, more throaty, sound at about 2500 rpm, but as the rpms climb above that the sound becomes annoying and generally unpleasant. The sound from the engine bay was now more muted and refined (aka stock), and I prefer it.
I've decided I will be staying with the stock intake and K&N drop in. Personally, I feel EG036-07 is where the improvement is to be had for Gen6 I4 owners...my conclusion based on the SRI and EG036-07 being applied at approximately the same time, then removing the SRI and the improved driving charateristics remaining.
All in all I had fun and learned a bit about working on the car.
Alrighty, just wanted to share and maybe help out with some feedback on the product.
If there are any specific questions feel free to ask.
