To make the process less messy, remove the drain plug and drain the oil first before tackling the oil filter. Do not use any tool to remove the O-ring, you may damage the cap. Don't forget to apply a thin coat of engine oil to the O-ring.

Torque specs

Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) Oil Filter Cap
Torque: 13 N*m (127 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) Oil filter drain plug to the filter cap
Torque: 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf) Oil drain plug with a new gasket

most excellent video.

i can't believe toy is using those nasty filters. looks like a big mess to replace.

are they trying to copy mercedes benz? the difference is that benz's filters are at the top and to change them there is no mess to deal with.

I don't think draining the oil would have any impact on the oil filter since the oil, when it is drained, drains out of the oil pan, which doesn't share the same "area" with the filter. The did find out that it is possible to activate the release valve inside the filter to drain the filter out, but that's not absolutely neccessary. As for the O-ring removal, the new filter comes with new O rings (you shouldn't reuse the old ones) and I did infact apply engine oil liberally to the new O rings

I will probably re-do the video next time and update it by adding the torque specs.

I agree with you, O-rings should be replaced everytime you change your oil. But I saw you in the video, using a tool instead of your hands to remove the O-ring. But if you are careful, I guess you won't damage the filter housing.

For my last oil change, I used Amsoil 100% synthetic 5W-30 (ASL). I don't think series 3000 5W-30(HDD) is recommended for use in Toyota's engines (ILSAC GF-4, 3 ..). For your next oil change, you might need to switch to 5W-30 ASL to avoid any warranty problems. I might be wrong, just contact Amsoil Customer service and ask them if it is ok to use 5W-30(HDD) for your Camry.

I have changed the oil a week ago. I drain the oil first. Then when the oil is still draing I replaced the filter. The oil pan can cover both at the same time. But you need to be very careful positioning the pan.

I used the hose peice/filter canister adaptor and just ran the hose to the drain pan, worked great, probably the cleanest oil change for me sofar and I've had some pretty ugly ones, like that time I forgot to put the plug back in and realized on the last quart (not on my car or driveway for that matter LOL)
