Gen6 Steering wheel off center...

It took me a while to search for that guy that posted a month ago or so about his stearing wheel being off center to the right about 5 or 10 degrees when he drives straight.

Well, I don't know if anyone was able to help him, I was out of town. But when I got back I noticed mine was doing the same thing. I took it in to the dealer and found that the "toe" adjustments for the front right tire were out of wack.

They fixed it and all is better. So if anyone else has the same issues, hope this helps.

It's just a bit of alignment issues, some people get it when they hit curbs or it just wasn't aligned correctly from the beginning.

Wheel size doesn't affect alignment.

I believe that someone did pass that incorrect information onto you in this forum. That's common. Even some of the ASE Master Tech's post bad information at times. Be very careful who you believe.

I have no idea where the mistake was made or where part of the information was drawn from.

On the subject of new rims casuing the need for an alignment, please exercise a little common sense and logic. What you are really aligning is the hub or spindle. The wheel just happens to be bolted on it and offers a bigger target. If the wheel is not bent and appears to spin true, it is parallel to the brake rotor, and it can't possibly change the alignment regardless of the width or diameter. Changing the springs or something else is another story but not part of this one.

Aftermarket wheel sizes can in fact change alignment. Not neccessarily rim diameter, but offset. If you change to anything from the stock offset, it will change your camber angles.

Offset doesn't affect any angle by itself. The affect of offset on the suspension or steering could affect alignment angles. The change in offset would have to be quite extreme though. In a case where enough of a change was made to actually affect the alignment, I doubt that the car would even be driveable.

So for the basic street driven vehicle, alignment would not be needed due to changing wheels.

Correct again.

Offset changes will only affect scrub radius.

There is a lot of hearsay, old wives tales, etc. on these forums.

You may have seen my posting but I've got mine fixed finally. My idiot dealer used 5th gen Camry alignment specs to do alignment on my 6th gen Camry which did not do a thing to remedy the problem. I brought the car back twice for the same problem after the first incorrect alignment and they kept telling me everything was within spec and that it was "normal" for the steering wheel to be pointing at 11 O'Clock position to go stright due to road crown. I finally discovered they used the wrong specs to do alignment on my car and had to point that out to my dumb-ass dealer. After using the correct specs to alignment on my car, it now tracks straight even on crowned roads.

Here are the links to my before and after alignment result sheets.
The first one clearly says for 02-06 Camry.
