5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Been thinking about getting these some day for my Blue Ribbon Matalic SE, but I don't see anyone running gold shoes anymore. Was wondering if the gold style was overplayed in the past with the Lexus or somethin. Would also gold finish the toyota hood emblem as well.
I wouldn't say that they are "out", but I certainly don't see too many cars with them. It really depends on what type of car it's going on, IMO I would go with bronze rims on a Camry.
A powder coat finish will not give you the same look as plated.
Thought of that ... but at least powder coat finish would better match the rims ... I don't really want the glossy gold look on the rims and from what I can tell from the picture of the rims, they appear to be powder coat finish. I could be wrong.
Yeah, they appear to be more bronze then gold, if so you could probably get away with simply repainting your emblems with matching paint, I believe the emblems are plastic so you wouldn't be able to powder coat them. Gots to be metal for the powder to stick! Check out Epsilon's ride, he's running a similar finish (at least this week!).
i wouldn't get 'real' gold emblems...someone will rip'em off and you're screwed...

heh ... oh yah ... will try to find a local who can match the rims and do a good job for me if I do get the rims. I am not talented to trust myself with painting the emblems and placing them back on. Will let a pro do it and exactly match the rim tone to do it right.
Epsilon does have a sick ride ... I like both looks black and gold/silver he is sporting. You can do alot with white. I will post a pic of my car as is with the rims later this week for a photchop request to get a better idea of how well the blue and gold go together. I think it would look great ... in my head ... but then there is reality.
This is the only car I've seen gold rims on lately. Seems now-a-days it's become a pimped ghetto thang, so in my opinion, stay away from gold. Of course this comes from someone whose often told they have a gold car (I frequently have to tell people it's NOT gold, it's desert sand)! You might get away with bronze, but only if used sparingly, as a detail color. Good luck with whatever you decide.

They don't have to be metal for the powder to stick. Plastic intakes are powder coated all the time. Plastic emblems don't stand up to the heat of powder coating though.
Epsilon's ride has the performance/racing theme going on. That's why bronze/gold rims look great on his car. Without that theme, it wouldn't look right.
Gold rims make me think of a Blue Subaru WRX......weird....
not so weird... it's one of the more popular combinations for the subies with their light-bronze/gold-ish oem wheels. gold wheels make me think blue subaru as well- in fact, blue subaru impreza wrx.

If you want to be like everyone else out there (in "style") the golds are not "in". in style now is a black/gunmetal rim with a polished/chrome/machined lip. Pretty much EVERYONE is rockin' that style now.
I don't care much for what's "in". I buy what I think is good.
But the point is to be different, so do as you like, but personally, gold/bronze is a colour best suited for a more JDM/performance look (I agree 100% with TRD on this one).
