Some say that all winter tires do the same thing, and therefore one should buy the $50 no-name tires instead of $100-150 "real" winter tires (i.e. Michelin, Nokina, Toyo, Bridgestone). However, I think the rule of "you get what you pay for" continues to apply here. Sure, branded tires cost more partially because of the "name", but there is a reason why cheap winter tires are $50 a piece, and branded are $100-150 a piece.

Nokian are one of the highest end tires you can get for winter, no doubt.
Last week I drove into the mountains in central VT. It was snowing pretty good around Killington. The tires sucked in the snow! Next time I will get some opinions here. I guess I have learned my lesson.
I traded in the car for an 07 LE V6. They asked if I wanted the snow tires. I politely said "Hell No!"

Stock Michelins + Winter = Poor Traction

I have stock Michelin's on my 07 Camry and they are really terrible. We got a bit of snow here and I felt like I was on a magic carpet slip-sliding around.

In one week I will have a new pair of Nokian Hakka's that should do the job.

I plan on replacing those Michelin's this summer with a better summer or all-season tire, just not sure which one.

Northern and Southern california need no wniter tires =P. Though if I ever drove my car near the mountains, I'd go prepared. Good info!
