5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have an 07 CE with the stock 16" Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 tires. Has anyone used these in snow and ice? I live in NH and winters are very unpredictable. I am wondering if I should buy some snow tires.
Sorry I can't say for sure, but it's great to meet someone else from NH, let alone Concord
I remember seeing your car around town before I bought mine. Seeing your car pushed me into buying a Camry instead of a more well equipped Corolla. I do wish I had a V6 instead. Oh well, maybe next time.

hehe, you need to do a few mods to your car so I can recognize you when I'm driving. Although it's kinda cool having the only modified Gen 6 Camry in town :P

In the spring I will have the only CE around with SE rims. Also I am going to put in some fogs.
Thanks for the info. I will look into some snows for the winter.
the Michelin X-Ice snowtires are great. I have them on my car for the winter. I have to agree with the rest that their all seasons aren't that great, i've had them on my old Grand Prix and they tended to slip and slide alot...

My Mom has Michelins on her Highlander Limited too. She did a 360 last year on the highway.
Michelin makes some of the best tires. They wear extremely well and are very resistant to irregular wear patterns. They also grip well above freezing. When it gets cold, they're like hard plastic.
I used to work for a tire manufacturer many years ago in Minnesota. Many people would buy a new import car with Michelin tires, and the first thing that they would do is replace them due to the poor winter traction.
Apparently, they aren't all that concerned with the poor winter performance of their all season tires.
They suck in the winter. So do the HX MXM4 Pilots that I have.
All season Michelins never have been good tires in the snow, ice, or cold.
I have to agree. I have had them on a previous Camry and would not opt to rebuy them again when replacing tires for that exact reason. Our 07 XLE came with them when new, so we'll have them for a while and then replace them with something else.
Back in the day, I have used a BMW X5 4.4i which had the Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 all-season tires.
Stopping was average. Going was average (probably aided by the AWD). Cornering was down-right dangerous.
My Camry came with 215/55/R17 Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 tires. While I am VERY satisfied with them during spring, summer and fall, I will NOT run them in the winter.
I've purchased a set of Michelin X-Ice tires (215/55/R17) which I'll have mounted next week.
I'm a firm believer in running dedicated winter tires during that season. Even if where you live does not get blizzards, you should still put on winter tires. Ice and slush can pose the greatest threat to traction.
Besides, winter tires are designed to offer superior traction as the air temperature decreases.

I had a set of Kelly Wintermark Magna Grips installed this afternoon. They are noisy but seem pretty good on the highway. A few people that I spoke to were happy with them. The guy at Tire Warehouse recommended them over several other more expensive tires. I hope I am happy with them when the snow flies.
the michelins on the camry suck in the snow! HORRIBLE. i live on a hill ( not big) but my camry will always get STUCK near the BASE. While huge school busses can make it up the hill no prob and other family cars. Heck even our old RWD Minivan could make it up no prob while the camry would get stuck in like 6 inches of snow.
Since the CDN dollar is so strong i might have to buy some snow tires soon
