I have been experiencing this wierd start up every morning, for the past 4 or 5 months. Everytime I start my 2002 camry (2A-ZFE), a puff of white smoke comes out the muffler at a cold start, but once the car starts running it's fine. I have been checking my oil level to make sure if it was any leaks but apparently my oil level pretty much stays the same. I just changed my oil roughly about 2000 miles ago I used 10-W40. I was thinking about putting some Seafoam in the oil and see what happens. Any suggestions what it could be? Thanks

I'm guessing that it's just condensation. By the way, it's a 2AZ-FE.
Using 10W40 is stupid, that same thing with adding SeaFoam to your oil. You should be using 5W30.
Whoops I know it's typo 2AZ-FE....but from the post I keep on reading about Seafoam being so good. I thought I'd give it a shot. Why would you say it's bad to add Seafoam to your oil? I've heard nothing but good things.
It's a preference thing. Some people add it to oil, others dont. It is safe to do though.

It's a very strong solvent/detergent in a liquid form. I don't see the advantage to adding it to the engine oil. Oil already has detergent additives in it. As long as you change your oil and use the CORRECT oil (which you don't), SeaFoam won't be that beneficial.
SeaFoam works great for cleaning fuel systems and air intakes.
Quality oils work great for lubrication and cleaning of the engine.
its most likely condensation....i know BRAND NEW toyotas at the dealer i work at all put out puffs of white smoke when you start them up because theyve been sitting....esp if u live in an area where theres a drastic change in temp between day and night
and make sure you use 5W30 oil only....its what toyota reccomends for your camry
Actually yeah I thought it was condensation but when I was Seafoaming my car yesturday I noticed behind my valve cover right next to the intake manifold, I see and oil leak(s). I think thats the source of. I'm going to take it to my mechanic and have it let him take a look at it.
An oil leak at the valve cover isn't going to result in smoke out the tail pipe. You didn't say how many miles you had but suggested this had been happening throughout the summer. If the engine is high mileage then the smoke out the tailpipe is more likely oil getting past the valve stem seals. This isn't a huge deal unless they fail entirely which is rare.

Hmmm yeah I think your right. I have 85,000 miles on the Camry now, and she drives smooth no hicups or anything. I keep up with the oil change and check all the hoses regularly. Though that puff of smoke keeps me worried casue i always think that I might be developing some slug in the enigne. But I might be wrong.

Hell, just remove the oil cap and look inside. If there's sludge you'll see it. If you service your car regularly with the approved oil, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
You're asking for an arguement with that question.
That being said, I use synthetic oil and have never had and engine problem since switching...
I use Mobil 1 and change at factory recommended intervals.
Ageed, perfect question for an argument. I'll just add that using synthetic oil is great prevention against engine problems, It will not repair any existing problems or reverse normal wear, hints best time to switch to synthetic is right after the engine's initial break-in
