5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was watching tv last night and saw a commercial with a camry looking like it was hiding in a dark corner of a room, then the commercial says "camry beware!" and the camera makes like the big bad malibu is hunting down the scared little camry.
I guess that's GM's new marketing slogan for the Malibu, lol.

Yeah... Seriously... I've always been a Toyota/Honda owner... Drive the new Malibu/Saturn Aura. What little bit it lacks in refinement over the Camry, it more than makes up for on the bottom line. With Toyota's slipping quality, if enough people get their head out of Toyota's ass, the Camry does have a lot to be worried about.

'94 Camry LE. IDK, that minty green color that looks silver in a pic, until you see the car, and it's actually green.

yes i strongly agree. hopefully toyota will get their own head out of their ass and start making good quality cars like they use to
“The car is exceptionally tight, not just for a GM car but for any car anywhere near this price point. In back-to-back testing with the latest Toyota Camry, we came away impressed at how well the Malibu held its line and stayed planted over bumpy paved corners versus the Japanese competitor. The Malibu's fit, finish and features also compared favorably against the Camry's, and some on staff say the Malibu is better, more in line with a Volkswagen Passat.”
“But after spending some time in the Malibu's competitors, there is no question that the Malibu differentiates itself with style. While other cars in this segment tend to be a bit boring, the Malibu brings some attitude without being over the top.”
“So, are we gushing about this car? Yes, and we're as surprised as you. My last GM-made car was 13 years ago, and was awful. I swore I'd never step foot inside another GM showroom. This car could very well change my mind about that. It's got the looks, the character and the interior to challenge Camry's reign, and it's about time. If the Malibu can be built to the same quality standards as Toyotas "supposedly" are, GM is back.”
“In the class, only the Accord's interior really stands clearly above the Malibu's effort, while the Camry shows evidence of Toyota's cost-consciousness and is certainly no better in terms of either design consistency or materials quality.”

Every review has been glowing for the new Malibu (Edmunds was the least favorable, yet they still seemed impressed). I doubt it will challenge the Camry for the #1 spot, but it sounds like it'll be a great alternative.

i still trust toyota over the US automakers but i like the new styling and ideas behind the new products commin out from ford, gm and chrystler. i gotts say, being a fan of speed its been hard not to get a mustang or camaro, even today they are still the best bang for the buck. hopefully toyots will speed up the process to make their cars more fun.
I really don't see why reviewers are gushing about the style? The front looks bland and the rear looks like an imitation of a jetta. The interior is nice tho.
To me the new malibu looks like the pure embodiment of a rental car.
That ad was so stupid and GM should fire their ad people because really the last thing they should do is put the competition's car in their commercial. The only reason why anyone remembers that commerical is because what they said about Toyota, that commerical didn't tell any of the cars features or why (GM thinks) it is better than the Camry.
I doubt Toyota is concerned about this car, The Saturn Aura wasn't a threat so this car won't be either. If Honda made this commerical it might actually be legit, but comming from Chevy its a joke.

+1
It's less powerful (V6@252hp)
Less refined
Crappier Engine than Camry
Crappier Hybrid Version
Not any better in terms of quietness, space,
not better in terms of anything except for the interior
