5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
if you have a carb header, it is to my understanding that you have a header with the o2-sensor-on-top-of-header/precat header. or basically- you don't have a header cover. heck, i was never sure about this issue...
well anyways...
now my question- have any of you carb-header folks attempted to install the oem header cover that the other non-carb 2az-fe people have? i figured that with some modification to the cover (drilling a hole on top of the cover for the 02-sensor to go through), the header cover might be a perfect fit. there also seems to be two holes provided for the bolts to go to.
the reason i ask is because i want to hide that ugly brownish-reddish header without going to aftermarket performance headers. don't take me wrong, i'd love the look and performance given by a performance header, but i'd also like to stay carb-legal.
The Camry never came with header(s) and I'm not aware of any C.A.R.B. certified headers either.
Do you have a link?
EDIT: If you're talking about the exhaust manifold cover on regular cars versus the California/New York area manifold without a cover, no the cover will not fit reasonably.

^lol. ok. i meant the exhaust manifold cover. my bad on the "header". but at least i didn't put it as "headers".
so it wont fit? what are the two 10mm bolt holes for then? or are they just there because the carb-manifold and non-carb manifold share the same flange?
On the "C.A.R.B." manifold the oxygen sensor is in the top of the manifold. As you can see by the pic above, the cover of the regular manifold doesn't have a provision for it.
I feel for you guys that have that ugly ass manifold.

so you think that the only modification for the cover to fit is the o2-sensor hole? cuz i can easily drill that out and clean it up with a dremel...
i was aware of the location of the o2 sensors on both manifolds btw.
but you know what... maybe i'll just get a manifold cover from a tC or 10th-gen corolla after the owner puts in an aftermarket manifold.
You can always buy a whole new non-CARB manifold (cover and all). *shrug* Might be a pricey cosmetic mod though.
Holy crap! Where the heck have you been?
