5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi, this is my first post to ToyotaNation.
I've been reading the forums for the last couple of weeks and got a lot of useful information from everyone. I just installed my iPod adapter to my Camry today and decided to make it a DIY.
I took information from lots of different posts , here are two that I can remember:
So for my Install, I choose the USA SPEC PA-12 TOY, which has the Ipod connection (play and charge) and a set of RCA ports for additional AUX.
Installed onto my 2005 Camry LE with a 1 CD Player (Type 1), No Cassette, No NAV, No TEXT.
Materials Used:
Bottle cap Opener
10mm Bolt (Nut) Driver (Metric Nut Driver)
Installation Prep:
Remove any CDs in the CD player and turn it off (Just in case)
Disconnect Battery (You will lose your radio presets, so write them down if you forget them).
Installation:
Use the bottle cap opener to pop open the Air Conditioner Control Assembly.
(I found that the easiest spot was the bottom middle. Just popped right out at one spot)
After popping out the Air Conditioner Control Assembly, there are 2 connections that need to be removed. All the connectors have a release piece, so make sure not to just yank them out.
Once this is done, you can remove the entire piece and place it out of your way.
Use 10mm Bolt Driver to remove the 10mm bolts
(two are in the front middle and two are hidden in recessed pockets).
(Circled areas are the hidden bolts)
Pull out the CD Player/Head Unit (Vent covers and the clock come out with it.) There should be at least 4 connectors attached to it, make sure to get them all (don’t worry about mixing them up, since all the ports are different, but make sure not to let the cords drop to the bottom of the console).
(back of the CD Player)
(circled part is where the AUX connector goes).
Plug in the Aux connector (PA12-TOY) in to the 2nd to the left port (looking from behind).
Install the wires to where ever you like.
Put everything back by reversing directions.
I don’t have finish product pictures yet, night came too fast. I will post them when daylight comes.
How's it working for u?...I installed the same unit in my 08,works as designed & no cables to see.Good job on the install pictorial.
Working great for me. I'm very pleased with all the features. My unit doesn't have TEXT function, or else it would be just perfect. There is a tiny delay changing tracks, but overall I'm pretty pleased.

Even in the 08 the location of the plug is the same,I bought mine from Crutchfield & what I like about them is they send u a 'Master Sheet' for ur specific vehicle. If u decide to use the unit in another Toyota(since u bought from them u have lifetime CS) u can call & get the MS for that vehicle.
Its the number on the faceplate of the unit. Mine is the dreaded AD6806, which I think may not have all the connections in the rear of the unit as yours does, but the front of mine looks identical to yours. My wife ordered me a Peripheral iPod® Interface Kit (iSAS71 + PXDP + PXHTY3):
i know it was some time ago since the last post, any instructions on how you got it to work? meaning if you are listening to the radio and you want to listen to the ipod what do you have to do?

you press disc or cd. pressing it once should go into your regular cd, pressing it again will go to the ipod.
Great picts w8291! Very informative. Thanks.
I'd like to try this out myself but does it matter that I do have a cassette player? Just bought a 2005 camry xle and still learning a lot. Does the unit pulls it's power from the aux connection?

it should work as long as you have the aux/cd changer input.
the unit also draws power from the connection and the one i posted on can charge the ipod at the same time
I haven't tried the ipod function yet with my gf's ipod... I have a zune so I've just been using the aux input.
Although with mine if you crank the volume up you can hear the engine revs with a high pitched whine.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
I am thinking maybe the ipod hookup would yield a different result but I still have to try it out.
i'm pretty sure the ipod hookup will be different, but i can't say since i'm not familiar with the brand you have. an ipod connection would definately be better in sound quality etc.
