Does your car fart like mine?

When I pound the gas pedal down ... way down and not just normal down ... I notice everytime the smell of sulfer dioxide or whatever that rotten egg smell is in the cabin of my 07 SE. Is that normal or is there a problem with my catalytic converter?

This happens with many cars from different manufacturers.

Usually it occurs when the vehicle is under high load or WOT (wide open throttle) due to higher convertor temperatures and/or more rich running conditions.

I use BP fuel almost exclusively and do not have the smell from my Camry. My Mom uses cheap ass gas almost exclusively in her Highlander and it makes the smell on occasion.

I wouldn't sweat it. The older your car gets the less it will do it.

That is completly normal, its just the sulfur in the fuel ..... Some fuels have higher sulfur content than others depending on quality/part of the country you're in.

I experienced similar smelly behaviour ...but it seems to be happening less frequently as I put more miles on the car or it might be just my driving become more tame

We once had a brand new 02 BMW 330i. Under high load, you would get the smell a LOT. We always fed it premium gas from Esso or Shell.

We had an 02 BMW X5 4.4i which ate the same kind of gas. It produced the same smell very rarely under open throttle.

My old 05 Toyota Echo hatchback never ever produced this smell. That only are regular gas from Esso.

Our 04 Benz ML500 never ever makes the smell. That eats only premium usually from Esso or Shell.

And my 07 Camry SE V6 never ever makes the smell. I feed my Camry regular gas usually from Esso.

I don't think it has anything to do with what gas the car eats.

What are you talking about? The Camry is so slow that even when he floored it, the wind carrying the exhaust fumes blew by the front of his car

20k miles later and I forgot I even had this issue way back ... I can't even remember when the last time I had that smelly behaviour ... must be a part of the break-in process

I got that smell when I got in my car this morning. I left my girlfriend's house and hopped in the car. Without starting it, there was a rotten egg smell.

Anybody care to guess what it was?

Either your car farted, or your girlfriend did

There was a TSB for the exact same issue on the 4th generation 4Runners. Complain enough and maybe Toyota will issue it for the 6th Gen Camry as well.

Mmmm... you pumped a couple of good ones into the seat the night before, and it was right back at you in the morning?
I have charcoal filter seat covers to prevent this, well not completely.

The rotten egg smell was from me. Damn, that was nasty.

I wonder how my car can give me that exhaust smell without having that smell itself...
