5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
In March 2006 I traded in my beloved 2002 Z28 for the family car...a Titanium 2007 Camry LE I4. You can imagine the shock of going from a car that delivers 310 hp/340 torque to a car offering pretty much 1/2 that.
I've been bitching and moaning about how much I hate the lack of power ever since. I really like my Camry; the engine being my only gripe. Welp, after about a year and a half or persistent whining I'm pleased to report the little lady has approved the purchase of a 2008 Classic Silver Camry LE V6.
I know, I should have bought the V6 from the get-go, but availability at the time wasn't what it is now and our local dealership wasn't willing to let his 2 black SE V6's go for anything less than over sticker. That combined with an immediate need for the family wheels resulted in the purchase of the I4.

The search begins and I'm highly excited.
Good for you.
I kept from having that problem by keeping my Formula and getting the Camry. The I4 Camry works fine for me, and I enjoy driving it regardless of the power level.

Good for you V6 owner.
I made the same mistake with my I4 but I'm waiting for the Gen7 V6.

Thats great to hear man, i was even debating going with a i-4 to save some money, but not really for me. Its great on gas and isnt as weak as everyone says. In the end went with the V6s and couldnt be happier.
Damn your wife is nice to listen to whining. I really want to get rid of my Camry because I saw some awesome pre-owned 2004-2005 Mercedes S500 Long Wheelbase 4Matic sedans in the $57-65000 range. Alas, nobody listens to me.

V6 is the way to go. I traded in my Nissan 350Z for the Camry V6 and I have to say I don't miss the 350Z too much. The V6 camry provides more than enough power when needed, its not a sports car but I am impressed.

eww, mercedez-benz's are ugly, and they're rated poorly in terms of reliability... the only reason people buy them is because they're a status symbol...

To each his own. I happen to like Benz styling (both past and present). Reliability is not an issue because you're backed by a solid warranty and roadside assistance.
Besides, at least you won't get a flaring tranny, right?
Status symbol? Maybe I like that exact idea - what's wrong with it? Not to mention that Benzes happen to also be fine machines. Yes they're overpriced (as are BMWs and Audis), but you just can't get the bank-vault rock solid feeling in other cars when you're driving a Benz.
Drive one of their midrange or higher models around for a month - you will understand.
Don't get me wrong - the Camry is a fantastic vehicle which offers exponentially more value for the money. But there's a reason why "premium" cars are "premium".

It's good that you had the option to keep hold of the Formula. The V6 is great, but it's no rear-drive torque monster. That's why I'm glad I still have my Dodge Ram 1500 with... oh never mind, that's a lousy example.
Seriously, though, even though my pickup is weak (it's okay for a pickup, but it's not fast) it's nice to have rear-drive. I'm actually not a huge F-body fan, but I have to admit they do fly.
I sat in a G35 and G37 the other day. Rear drive. Nice power. Real stick shift. Sweet ride. I'm not as much a fan of the IS350, but it's okay and rear drive, but too bad no stick. The IS-F, when it comes out, will be interesting as well. I'm not sure if the car mags are on the payroll, but they didn't even seem bothered that it lacked a stick, saying the 8-speed auto is so good you won't want to row it yourself.
Hey wait... what was this thread about again? Oh yeah, the V6. Yes, I love mine too. Get on it on the highway, and you're walking away from the crowd quite nicely.

It's the Corinthian leather, isn't it? I knew it.
