Bulb Types for Gen-6 Camry

Hi all:

A newbie here and this is my first post. I've loved the 6th-gen Camry since they came out last year. Tonight I finally took the plunge into a loaded '08 TCH (white/bisque). Looking at the car, I know I need to make some immediate changes to the grille, tires and lights:

1) HIDs: Do I need to retrofit or would the current housing work?
2) What bulb types for the low beam (H11s or what) to replace with HIDs?
3) New grilles: any recommendations? Price range? I've seen plenty on EBay but just not sure which kit to go for. Dealer quoted me $495 installed. Should I go for it?
4) Fog light assembly/kit? Where can I find this? and what should I expect to pay? Does the TCH come pre-wired for fog lights?
5) Love the GS430 (18x8) rims on some 6th-gen Camry's I've seen here. I would love to put one on mine, and lower it by 1/2" to 1" for a much better look. How much would that effect my ride? Should I expect my MPG to suffer? Anyone here has lowered their TCH? I'd like to see pics, plz!!!

Welcome to TN. You'll find this site with a lot of information. I'm going to give you a short version then you'll have to use the search button for more info. OK?
1) HIDs: Do I need to retrofit or would the current housing work?
Stock: 1x
HID kit: 3x (make sure you cover the squirrel spotters so you don't blind others)
Retrofit: 10x
So it's your choice.
2) What bulb types for the low beam (H11s or what) to replace with HIDs?
H11.

3) New grilles: any recommendations? Price range? I've seen plenty on EBay but just not sure which kit to go for. Dealer quoted me $495 installed. Should I go for it?
It's basically come down to 3 types of aftermarket grille:
1. E&G Grille (I have this one)
2. Billet Grille
3. JDM Grille (just like LE but all chrome)
Don't spend $495 on the dealer. Just buy online. I can email you the PDF instruction how to change the grille.

4) Fog light assembly/kit? Where can I find this? and what should I expect to pay? Does the TCH come pre-wired for fog lights?
You can buy fog light kit on Ebay around $80 to $100.

I have the GS430 rims lowered with Eibach springs. The ride is stiffer but the handling is so much better. I bought those rims from a member here name Eyekutr.

Hi Lammydi: Thanks so much for those wonderful responses. They were very helpful. Then I checked out your carsite. WOW!!! Love the stuff you had on your '07. Just the perfect setup I want - rims, HID, fogs, door sills, lowered, etc... Oh my!!! And we are both in San Diego.. Grreat.

I already PM-ed Bigdaddymike who did your HID install. I will order from XD. I have the stock 4300K on my LS400, installed a 4300K purchased from XD on my LX470, and would probably go with a 5000K kit for the Camry. Its the perfect set between a 6000K and the super-white 4300K. Since I already have two cars with the 4300K, I wanna do something different with the TCH. Reading the HID thread, seems the projector housing in the gen-6 Camry will work with just an HID kit. I'll place my XD order Tuesday. Need it pretty bad Modding is so infectious....

As for tires/rims, I am shopping online already for a good price on the GS430 set. Else I go with a different set, as long as they are 5-spoke. The tires need to be a bit wide for the kinda stance I am looking for.

I'll probably do the E&G grille set. Love it chromed on a white color. Gives the car a much better look than the stock mesh...IMO..

Once I complete my first set of mods, I'll post pictures...

For the rims, may I suggest one of my favorites. The MRR Design HR2.

Beautiful wheels, those MRR Design HR2. I checked these out cos I do like them as well. The chromed versions come only in 19" and 20"s. I want 18s, so I looked at the Diamond-Cut finish ones which can be obtained at 18x8 rims. I will be ordering this cos the price seems pretty good ($125 ea). I am leaning towards the 235/45/18 set. Seems the best combo for this car...

I'm having the E&G grille installed next week.

Next, is the tint - 5% rear, 15% front.

Then HIDs which I am ordering from XD - 5000K kit

And then Eibach springs...

This is just freaking me out and its only been 24 hours....

Ordered the MRR Design HR2's in size 18". ETA is 2 weeks (UPS Ground). The tint goes on today, and the grille next Monday....
