5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Is it illegal for dealers to lie like this? The day I bought my 2007 camry, the manager told me that they get advanced notice from toyota concerning toyota incentives. He told me that there are no incentives for the next month and that I should just buy the camry that day. I bought it, and of course there's an incentive from Toyota only 10 days later. Lie number one!
I filed a complaint with the customer relations specialist. The GM called me and told me that they don't get advanced notice of toyota incentives. Then he offered to give me the incentive (0ARP for 36 months). I went to the dealer to sign the papers. A month later, I called in to check the status, and they said toyota denied the incentive for my car because I didn't buy it within the correct time frame. Lie number two. Plus they didn't even call me to tell me that it was denied. I could have been making payment instead of waiting for the 0APR. 0APR and my 9% APR is a big difference ($1400+).

sounds like you've been duped lol.. why would ya believe that first statement about "advance incentives". it is what it sounds exactly like: they wanted you to buy the car right then and there, which is the whole point. What would they achieve if they tell you to come back in a month because of so-and-so incentives.. and then who knows if you will come back to that specific person, or even to that dealership? You shoulda been more attentive about his intentions on that topic.
Must be a Democrat. Expects others to protect him from a lack of common sense. No personal responsibility. Biggest problem in America these days.
Granted, the dealer is a sleez, but nothing that an educated consumer wouldn't see from a mile away.
OP: I don't mean to attack you, but the reality of your situation is something that happens to a lot of people and hopefully one day more folks will get the message to take the time to take care of themselves.

File a compliant with Toyota customer service, they might actually care given the bad press they have been getting.
You should be able to do better then 9% on a car loan, shop around. Try a credit union if you have access to one. Read your contract to see if you can pay it off early without additional expense. If so, pay it off and go else where with your business. If you feel you were screwed, there is no sense continuing to take it if there are alternatives. Will Toyota or the dealer care most likely no, but you may feel better when each payment is due.
INcentives ten days later? And you think you're entitled? That's like going to buy Christmas gifts the day before Thanksgiving, and then thinking you're entitled to the sale price the stores offer on the day after Thanksgiving. It makes no sense.

I agree. As a consumer, they are entitled to tell you NOTHING and in fact they have done nothing wrong, it is YOUR responsibility to find incentives BEFORE you purchase the car. 9% APR is extremely high and no offense but if you can't afford the payments, including the APR, then you shouldn't have bought the car. You'll be lucky if they give you anything.

I agree with you. I bought mine 2 months prior to a $1000 rebate. I just couldn't wait that long, and I knew it was coming cause the 08's were so close to being realeased. The funny thing about your post is that many retailers will do exactly what you are describing and refund you the difference. The only problem is that it doesn't apply to cars. There is no return policy for cars, but there is for merchandise in stores like Target and Wallmart.
