5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Everyone's favorite 2008 Camry is still in the shop...
I've never had this ordeal before, but does anyone who's had a gen6 engine replaced know approximately how long it should take? It's been in the dealership for a week and a half now. When I call to ask what is taking so long, I'm told they'll call when it's done. I realize they know I'm dumping the car the same day I get it back, but in the meantime, I'm paying insurance, and have a payment due in about a week.
Also, when I sell it, do I have to disclose that the "car has 15,000 miles on it, but the engine has 0 miles"? Or is that only if they replace the engine. They wanted to rebuild it, but then they also talked about getting a brand new one, or finding one in a wrecked car if they could. I flat out refused to get a used engine from a wrecked car put into my 3 month old Camry, but I could care less if they rebuild or put a new one in, since I'm getting rid of it.

I call BS on the dealer getting a used engine. Toyota wouldn't pay for that under warranty.
I would love to be a fly on the wall when a Toyota dealer tries to submit the junk yard receipt for a used motor as a warranty claim. Talk about belly laugh for TMSUSA.

As a fellow Camry owner I like to show my sympathy to you. But you racked up 15,000 miles on it in just three months. It is hard for me not to think you have not abused it.

WTFO!?!?!?!? What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? I had 33k on mine in about a year, so what? How does high miles = abuse? If anything, it's probably mostly long trip highway mileage which would be less wear/tear on the drivetrain (generally speaking).

If high mileage will not damage the car, why high mileaged used car is selling for less? Can you answer this for me?

Less wear/tear on the drivetrain as compared to the same miles achieved through city driving, yes.
But 33K is quite high for 1 year. Doesn't mean it's been abused, but it DOES mean the car will be "old" mechanically quicker.

Regardless, the mileage has nothing to do with the problems this guy is having.
I personally think that he has a lemon of a Camry, it happens. I also feel that his posts aren't completely truthful and he is making his problems even worse. That's just my feelings and/or opinion.

He has not given details on how he racked so many miles in three months. I think we need this fact before we can make a good judgement. OTOH, Toyota has a five years sixty thousand miles warranty. Does Toyota warrant the powertrain regardless how it is being driven?

Its called driving. You get in the car, you start it, and you drive. lol. come on now, seriously, does it matter how he got so many miles on his car in 3 months? whats the difference between 15,000 miles at 3 months and 15,000 miles at 9 months? I have an 07 camry and i drive 38 miles to work and 38 miles home every day. All highway. And then driving wherever for leisure after work. Alot less wear and tear than city driving.

True. But 15,000 miles requires him to change oil every month. Did he really do this?

It took 3.5 weeks when they replaced my engine. They gave me another Camry as a free loaner. I didn't care how long it took because of the free loaner. I did stopped by twice a week to talk to the Service Advisor and the Master Technician.
