My 07 SE has the stock michelin tires on it. We had a massive ice storm/snow file yesterday and I noticed how little traction my car has in icey conditions. It reduced my driving mannners to that of a 90 year old granny. I really can't afford to buy snow tires. You guys think I will be ok with the stock tires for the winter? granted that I drive like a granny in order to avoid crashing??? thx in advance people.
Its great practice. You'll be fine. Even with snow tires, when you have a massive ice storm and everythings crusted over, there's not much you can do. Cept for maybe chains. Or those little spikes that shoot out like James Bond has.
Hmm...We have Michelins on our 07 XLE as well. I didn't think they were that bad last year.
I have Cooper SLEs on my Buick and I will admit they are better as All Season tires more so then the Michelins.
When the Michelins wear out on our 07 XLE I was going to put Coopers on it.

i wouldn't say the snow/ice storm was massive...it wasn't as bad as past years...just the first snow fall, everyone needs to get used to it. Esspecially if it's your first winter with the car. Just adjust your driving style and leave more room for braking and you'll be good.

You should be OK if you take it easy. However, I kust bought a set of 4 new Dunlop SP WinterSport M3 winter tires and put them on my car. WOW!!!! What a difference in the snow and ice. Cost me $468 Canadian from Discout Tire Direct in the USA. I drove down and picked them up when I was visiting my parents a few weeks back.

I had to drive on my all season Michelins last year in Minnesota. They don't work very well in the winter but if you use caution you shouldn't have a problem.
They aren't very good in the winter but they do work. As stated previosly, you'll have to adjust your driving style.
In Toronto or Kingston. I really think winter tires help a lot, go get them and you will definitely feel a huge difference. I am using Prirelli for my Gen 5 and I am planning to get some Michelin X-Ice for my Gen 6. I think they would cost 400-500 CAD on TireRack.

Go for it man. I got my X-Ice tires from TireRack for like $650 including shipping and duties. That's about 50% cost as compared to all the other local quotes I got.
I got the OEM size 215/55/17 so I can just swap the tires on my existing wheels. I didn't want to spend $65 additionally per wheel on steel.
It's interesting to note that right now, TireRack no longer offers the X-Ice in my size. I guess they ran out? The general choice of winter tires for this size is much lower as compared to late October when I was last browsing.
Well...the tire companies do make "batches" only so it's possible for a retailer to run out of a size and/or model. All-seasons on the other hand are probably manufactured 24/7.

i just got some bridgestone winterforce tires studded and mounted on my stock steelies for my 07 CE for about $440 i definitely think winter tires are worth the investment no matter what. before i got them i had that granny driving experience in a few flurries weve had here. i dont trust them totally but studded snows give me a little more piece of mind, if you can deal with the godawful noise they make. but you gotta do what you can with what you have
there is a huge difference between winters and all seasons. Driving in Canadian winters with all seasons = not a good idea.
last winter i drove (carefully) with my all seasons and the car lost control on the highway in slush and I crashed into the guard rail smashing my front bumper, fender, and headlight
If you are worried about price you can buy a set of Goodyear Nordics at Canadian Tire. They are very cheap and work well.
