Exclamation Steering wheel hard

hi,

I have a Camry XLI 2004 model, i change the the front shockabs after 200,000 kms and now the steering wheel has become very hard especially at lower speeds ( less than 40km).

The car also wavers at lower speed and is hard on steering.

Is it normal to have this problem after changing front shockabs..?

Any ideas to solve this?

Hard on steering sucks. It can also be hazardous to the penis.

Either you have a power steering problem (more likely) or something in the steering or suspension is binding.

I would disconnect the outer tie rod from the spindle and see how easily the spindle turns/moves. If there isn't any binding, you have a steering issue.

I am assuming that all of the alignment angles are within specs.

Thanks TRd for your inputs....another symptom is that the steering wheel gets sticky after a turn and sort of eases out on a straight road.,..does it point to a bad powers teering pump?

I am suspecting the pump. i have ordered a new one.

Will keep you posted.

Those symptoms are kind of odd. It sounds like something may be binding or you have a severe caster problem.

What are the alignment specs?

Did you check the steering/suspension for binding as I pointed out previously?

Shot gunning a power steering pump at your car isn't going to fix it.

sounds alot like the problem someone else was having the other day, the strut mounts in the car had no steering bearings in them and it was weird turning and would 'stick' they changed them out for the mounts with bearings and everything is good, check a search for it, i THINK it was eye8

A strange thing happened which proved the point of TRD, i was crossing check point on the highway, and i had to take the car down the eleveated road because of a Truck which stalled at the middle of the road, ( car inclined at around 45 degrees) and back onto the road after 100 metres and vola....i noticed the steering wheel was free ( not sticky anymore)...!!!.

Cancelled the order of power steering pump..there must have been some binding somewhere which got free when the car was at an inclination.....

The experts can say which area the binding would have been which got free after the car went on side of the elevated highway...
