5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Has anyone "permanently" fixed their flare problem yet? I just noticed my first flare today, and was hoping that there was a permanent fix. Anyone had success?
There is no known fix and most likely Toyota will NOT fix pre-existing conditions on these problem cars. They MAY come up with a solution to the problem, but they will only use this fix for new cars as they are made--fixing the thousands or millions of cars with problems would cost too much. Welcome to the future of Toyota.

I havent heard of any complete fixes yet, although some say the ECU flash fixed the problem, while others say it's worse.
I have the flare on my car although it's minimal and not a huge deal. I would rather have this issue then dealing with the re-flash which may make the situation worse, or especially having the whole transmission replaced which will lower the value of the car and most likely cause other issues.
I had the reflash; overall it helped my 3-4 cold flare. I still get some strange tranny behavior at times. Not enough problems at this time to persue, and possiblly have the transmission replaced.
My ecu flash was about 4k miles ago and I haven't had a problem since. Seems to have cured the tranny. Beyond that, I haven't heard of anyone buying a car built since 1 June who has had a problem. The fix was announced in May. Really, anyone reading this with a late build date having trouble with the 3/4 flare??

They won't flash mine. Dealer said that wasn't a fix for this problem, so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Tranny was replaced last February, and the flare was gone for a few months but then returned.

My 2007 Camry was built in July and does not have the 3/4 flare. However, it does have a 2/3 flare and a 4/5 flare on occassion. Sometimes the 4/5 flare is significant. I believe all newer Camry's have the updated flash and the flare I mention is the result (tradeoff) of the update.
In my experience, the problem shows in certain traffic and driving scenarios. General driving does not show the problem for me, it's more slow acceleration and moderate to heavy traffic where the problem shows.

I agree with you. I'll wait and see if it gets worse or it becomes something that I can't live with. What in the world happened to Toyota
I had the flash done recently (~1K miles ago) and the flare seems to be fixed - it just holds 3rd gear longer.
The dealer also mentioned something about Toyota updating the programming for the drive-by-wire to make it quicker (BS?) and alleviate some of the flaring issues.
I dont know if I buy all that (probably BS) but it seems to be OK for now.

I may check into that. Thank you for the information.

I know they have a TSB for the hesitation issue for the I4, which may be what he was referring to.

He claimed there was something done for the V6's as well. Like I said, I think it's all BS. The only thing I have noticed is that the car holds 3rd gear longer - so instead of flaring it's just revving further up the powerband in 3rd.
Edit/ Per the work order - "Recalibrated Trans Control Module per TSB TC007-07"
The tranny is an Aisen I know other manufacturers use the same tranny but I do not know who they are. Toyota was getting allot of tech stuff from Mercedes Benz at one point. I have an 08 Camary V6 SE I have not found the problem yet but I did have one little on the gas off the gas quick peddle thing and I thought I felt a pause. I will post if the problem is still around. I know Chrysler fought the tranny issue in the 34 series for years and finally got it kind of fixed.

Quick question - what is TSB TC015-06 for?
I had the flash done a few weeks ago along with a new computer for the tranny. I am also noticing that it is taking a while now to shift to third gear. I need to take it back, but......
