so I want to replace my own tranny

fluid.
i was told all i have to do is remove the plug and drain the fluid.

i do not want to drop the pan and replace the filter, if there is one.

my question is, once i remove the plug how much fluid is going to drain out?

i need to know so i can buy the right amount from toyota.

looking at the online manual all i saw were instructions on how to drain the fluid and take the tranny apart.

i did not see anything about a tranny filter.

thanks.

I'm pretty sure there's no filter involved here. Ask a Toyota dealer to look up the quantity necessary for the fluid.

Drain and Fill: Up to 3.7 US. qt. (3.5 L; 3.1 Imp. qt.)
Change Automatic Transmission Fluid Only As Necessary.

Generally, it is necessary to change automatic transmission fluid only if your vehicle is driven under one of the Special Operating Conditions listed under one of the Scheduled Maintenance Guide or Owners Manual Supplement.

When changing the automatic transmission fluid, use only "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV " (ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) to aid in assuring optimum transmission performance.

Notice: Using automatic transmission fluid other than "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV" may cause deterioration in shift quality, locking up of your transmission accompanied by vibration, and ultimately damage the automatic transmission of your vehicle.

you are the man! thanks.

the only reason im considering it, is because the dealer told me i needed to change the fluid.

the other day i went to quick lube to have my oil changed, they also recommended i replace the tranny fluid.

hence, i am considering doing it myself.

Your dealer told you this? Are you sure it wasn't a Oil Change Chain? If it was, then you should see this:

Alot of people are getting screwed by companies like EZ Lube and Jiffy Lube.

actually the dealer told me first.

the following week kwik kar told me the same thing.

hence my concern.

i got ripped off by paying 39.99 for an oil change at kwik kar, last time i go there.

Do you have the allen key to open the transmission plug? I believe the size is 11mm. I can't seem to find that around here in SoCal.
