5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just had it installed and apparently as a safety feature, the doors locked when you put it in gear. I had this default feature in the Camry from the factory but I disabled the automatic door locking/unlocking because I hated the sound of the clickings from the door locks. Now it's back and they said I have to bring the car in for them to reprogram it but is there a simpler way of disabling it like how it is in the owner's manual? Thanks...

Close all doors, Shift lever in park position, Set IGN Switch to on position, within 10 seconds press and hold the drivers door power lock in the lock position for 5 seconds. "Doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate the function is set." Repeat to cancel the function.

^ he wants to change the aftermarket automatic lock/unlock feature if i'm not mistaken...
most aftermarket systems use the valet button to reprogram the system. if you have the manual of the aftermarket system, you should be able to easily reprogram it. its usually done by pressing/holding the valet button in a sequence.

yes i want to change the aftermarket's, the seq in the owners manual doesn't work, tried it. can you tell them to just do the remote start but don't mess with the keyless entry since it already has it?

I think I remember something about the "customer" settings for the gen6 reverting back to "default" when the battery is disconnected and needs to be reprogrammed. Just in case, you may want to try it. If the same function could be accomplished from either device, [keyless entry (AND/OR) standard gen6 settings], either one or both might do it. Programming only one might "not work" because the other one is doing it. GOOD LUCK

whoever installed the aftermarket system, might have disconnected the battery... so any setting you had disabled will be enabled again. check both the factory keyless as well as the aftermarket system.
by the way, what system do you have? might make it easier to help you

Any recommendations of places to get a remote start installed? Or which brand? I don't want to screw up a brand new car's circuitry or electrical wiring.

so you're saying I should re-disconnect the battery and try to sequence from your first post?

he's saying you should check what mode your factory keyless is in... it might have reverted back to default when they installed the aftermarket system. if it is still locking/unlocking automatically, then try to reprogram the viper system.
you should be able to reprogram the viper system just by using the valet button. it can get a little complicated, but its easier than going back to the installer. the installer has a module that can reprogram the viper system, but its not absolutely necessary.

That is correct, first verify the Gen6 settings are what you want by following it's procedure, then do the Viper/valet procedure for its settings. "One or both systems, may be causing the unwanted function." You will have to set and verify both as you do the program for each one.

It's a little different than the factory setting now which is it locks the doors when the key is at the ON position. The factory setting was all doors locked when you shift out of Park. How do I program the viper remote if I don't know the sequence? The one from the manual is easier b/c it just involves the door's doorlock button.
