5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My transmission shutters just slightly when braking. The shuttering is faint and brief. It happens at the 2 to 3 miles per hour mark just before coming to a complete stop. I am thinking of changing the Type T-IV AFT even though it is normally way too early.
My wife’s mother bought the Camry in 2003 and then became ill. After she passed away recently, car was willed to my wife; so it really only has 16k miles on it.
The engine idle speed drops to about 450 rpms (too low it should be 700 to 800) and the vibration is worse if the A/C is on. I know the vibs are from the tranny, as I have been working on cars/trucks for years now.
I am not sure why the ecu is telling the idle air control to drop so low????
Maybe I will clean the IAC first, but I can not see how it would get dirty so soon.

Take the car a Toyota dealership and have them test drive it. There should be a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty on the engine and drivetrain. That would include the transmission. Check the owner's manual to be certain. If you don't have the owner's manual, give Toyota corporate a call at 1-800-331-4331 and ask customer service. Be sure to have your VIN handy when you call them.
I know what your talking about, cuz my car does the same thing. Never thought it was a major problem.. Or is it?

get an EFI service ( clean your throttle body)
since it has low mileage and im sure it doesnt get driven hard or even long distance.. you might want to change your oil and make sure theres no sludge
No the car did not come with an Owner’s manual so thanks for the phone number and the VIN tip
When I received the car at 13,000 miles it had only had one oil change at 7,000 miles, so that was the first thing I did. It just looked black like from a vehicle of higher mileage.
I am familiar with Toys as I currently own 3 of them (2003 4runner, 1990 Corolla, and the Camry; so I know when something is not perfect. I do not think my problem is bad (at least for the short term) the long term consequences is unknown. This is what really irks me.
