Hey everyone, I wanted to try something out and I am seeking some help. I saw a solara on cardomain that had the same fog lights as us gen 5 guys and the housings were painted black. It looked sick. I have SE style headlights and those housings are black so I wanted to match my fogs to those. I don't want to try anything on my OEM ones because im to scared i'll mess them up. So I have a set of cheap ebay ones that I'm willing to use as the guinea pigs.
Has anyone successfully done this mod or does anyone know how to open up the fog light housings so that this can be done?
If, I am successful at this, I will possibly make a writeup on it. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
i dont have any ideas but im with you! i got an se and it never dawned on me that the fogs should have black housings too until now! especially with some nokya yellow bulbs it would look nice. def get back to me with a diy. although im sure your gonna have to bake them. and i just never liked the thought of that. it seems like youll end up with water in them after you do that..
Well, I basically jacked open one of the cheap ones I had. It has like 4 clips and then its glued. I broke 2 of the clips, but I wasn't really trying not to hehe. So once I opened it I did a quick 15 min job. Primered it quickly, then used a flat black enamel paint. It looks really cool, only thing is that i noticed for next time i should leave the reflectors chrome just like the headlights. Heres a couple pics of a what it looked like when it was finished.
Now, I need to figure out how to paint them and leave the reflector part chrome. I'm guessing I have to very carefully tape and cover that part up.
Sell me your mini projectors White, So I can retro them into my ES fogs.

How exactly do you take the reflectors out. They look all like one piece inside.
They're not. Just turn the adjustment screw to the left a whole lot... the adjustment screw is mainly what holds the reflector on. Think of it like a bolt. So loosen the bolt all the way, and then just pull on the reflector to pop it out of the two metal ball-joint clips (if they don't pop out just from being pushed by the adjustment screw).

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
Yeah, I just figured it out. Your'e right white it is just the adjustment screw holding it in. Now the question is should I be daring and try this on my OEM ones or should I buy another ebay pair and do it to those? I just feel that the OEM ones are going to be more difficult to open up. I would probably need to bake those, correct?
LE05, did you open up your fog light housings to do a mini projector retrofit? If so, were yours the OEM ones?
LE05 and I both started our fog projector retros at around the same time, and neither of us have finished yet... and its been what? Like a year now? Haha. But soon.. very soon.
