Vacuum leak - Hissing sound near throttle body area

2002 Camy XLE, I-4.

I notice a hissing sound from near the throttle body, VSV valve area.... at idle.

Also hear a slight/brief whistling sound from the same area, if I rev the motor with the hood open....

I looked for obivious leaks, could not find any...

Any known issues or thoughts?

2 things you can do...

(1) Grab a can of throttle body cleaner and start spraying your vacuum lines... if you hear the idle get faster for a second or two and then go back to normal, you've found your leak.

(2) Pick up an automotive stethoscope and pinpoint EXACTLY where the sound is coming from.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

+1.

Where have I heard that before?

Also note that it may be normal. At idle the throttle plate/blade is almost completely closed and the engine as sucking air through that small gap between the plate and the throttle body itself. There is a lot of vacuum taking place at that time which creates noise.

If you don't find anything, try cleaning the inside of the throttle body and throttle plate with throttle body cleaner.

Dirty throttle bodies can be noisy.
