No, you want to keep it in a place where water won't get to.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

+1

be sure to put them in a way that water cannot enter that ballast in anyway

I am looking to do a retrofit, but I have a slightly different question with the ballasts. Does anyone have any experience with the newer style digital ballasts? Are they as reliable as the standard mechanical ballasts?

Reliability is generally dependent on the brand and the price. What kind of ballast is it (brand)?

i just got my HID and was planning to install them myself (first time i've ever done it). A ballast location is important and read that you guys are placing the ballast under a frame rail beneath the headlights...is this reachable without taking off the front bumper? because i m not too sure where it is. Also i've been reading up about the squirrel spotters so i guess i might as well ask it here =). There seem to be two ways to do it, either covering it up with a piece of aluminum with jb weld or pushing the flap down. Is both way just as effective? Thanks for all the replies and helping me out!

jb weld works better, I mounted my ballast next to the headlights on that rail... it looks safe and its easy to get to if something happends

I can post pics later if you want
