Portable Satellite Radio install

Does anybody around here have one of the portable satellite radios installed in their camry? Any pics? I am considering getting one of the portable types that you can listen to in the car and take it out and listen at home. I want the portable kind so I can use it at the office and home without having to have 2-3 subscriptions.

So who has one of these hooked up and how did you hide the wires?

Thanks!

I thought about installing the Sportster in my Camry but decided to go with the behind the scenes unit

I was planning on installing the Sportster in the cubby hole under the climate controls. I think it’s a perfect location since you have the power outlet and AUX port right there. This way you would only have to run the antenna wire and you could do it the same way I did with my SoundLinQ2 antenna install. I ran it down the console, under the driver seat, down the frame to the back seat and through the trunk up to the roof…you don’t have to go all the way up to the roof if you don’t want.

Check out the pics I posted here...

I had photos of my Sportster installed right in the Center Stack Cubbie. (On my previous LE)
Close the door and it is out of sight out of mind.

Worked great...do a search and you can probably find those...

Sirius

I don't know how to do pics. It mounts perfect in the center console (under the climate control knobs) which Toyota smartly put a plug and aux jack inside the cubby. I placed my antenna on decklid inside the car. Perfect reception and no black zit on the outside (20%tint on windows). Plastic and glass do not mess up the antenna. If you have to put the antenna outside you can spray paint the antenna with similiar color auto paint from any Napa store. Good Luck.

I installed mine between the shifter and the garbage can, 'er, small storage area. Works great, used the power outlet right there, then mounted the antenna just over the back window. tucked the wire into the groove of the window, then through the trunk, out and around the back seat, under the floor mat, over the river, through the woods, and comes out right next to the passenger seat and plugs into the radio. The only problem I have right now is feeding it to the car's radio. My iPod also uses the AUX port, so I usually have to pick and choose, or use the radio's built in FM transmitter, which...works... but not the greatest sounding. When I get my iPod dash mounted I may look into a different sat radio that would fit in the cubby hole under the A/C controls.

I installed mine in the storage bin. The antenna is placed on rear shelf. I used a "Y" connector to make it easier to hook the iPod without unhooking Sirius.

My storage bin is full with (4) adapters and wires hence it is closed (permanently !!!). I have a GPS adapter for the Seidio unit as shown which connects to my Dell Axim PDA (w/ GPS), a Cobra XRS-9930 radar detector, cell phone adapter and of course the Sirius Replay Sportster unit as shown. The Camry CE 5 speed only comes with one cigarette lighter adapter and hence I don't have the additional 12V adapter thet is near the center arm rest. However, at the end of the day I have all the necessary toys : Sat radio, Radar detector, GPS...and a nice cell phone...

...don't forget I have a Camry CE....4 cyl....I ain't the HP adding type...I am fairly pleased with the CE 4 cyl not too bad in terms of power...don't miss my 6 cyl Acura TL I had before, and the CE is a lot lighter on the wallet....also doesn't hurt to have Tic Tac breathe....
