2002 Camry timing belt

I have a 2002 Camry and not it's hit 144,000 km. Toyota recommends a timing belt change at 140,000 km. How critical is it that I have this changed.

i'd get it done, i asked the samething awhile ago if it should be done as the manual says, and the answer was yes...and to also get the water pump done at the sametime. Mine is due in the spring and i'll be getting it done as soon as i have the money.

If you don't like your car stalling and leaving you stranded, I'd say that it's critical. It is the only means of connecting the crankshaft and camshafts.

As stated above, if you plan on keeping the car for some time I would recommend replacement of the waterpump if it has been replaced recently. They commonly fail at about 100,000 miles. It costs next to nothing to replace with the timing belt replacement.
