5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I guess it would be best to give it a test and see. Do the math aginst the cost of the fuel as to milage gain. I know my Mercedes would not run on regular unleded it had to have preamium fuel. It also got very good mileage.
A gallon here in New Mexico is $3.40 higer than any place else in the states so I don't know if I would save or not. I am willing to test it and see.
I tried that the first 2 weeks I had the car, and I didn't see the difference. Therefore I don't see the point in paying more for fuel other than to feel better about yourself in some way.
Rule of thumb: Use the fuel the manufacturer suggests.

It makes a difference in performance, but every day driving you wont notice it. Since i bought my car i been filling it up with 89. Toyota engines are made to be run with 87.
Read your owner's manual. If the owner's manual says to use 87 octane fuel in your V6 engine, you will not experience any increase in fuel mileage using higher octane fuel. You will however, be helping to increase the profit margins of the oil companies.

It'll add 4hp/6tq. Gas mileage will increase slightly, but not enough to overcome the price difference between 87 and 91+. This engine was actually designed to run off of premium and the ECM will advance the timing after 1-3 tankfulls to utilize the extra performance. Toyota in it's infinite wisdom decided to retune the ECM and retard the timing to work for 87.
