Gen5 GEN5 ignition start time ...

Hi,

Just a quick enquiry abt ignition (start up) time for my 2003 Sportivo V6 3.0 camry. It has done 90,000 kms - regularly serviced at Toyota dealership, and recently did its mandatory 90,000km service.

I always noticed that my car ignition time - from the time I turn the key until the car actually starts takes around 2.5 seconds - slightly longer than the other toyota camry's in my family - which start pretty much within 1-1.5 seconds.

It even takes this its time even when warmed up. Is there something wrong with the car?

Your kind input is much appreciated.

Check the voltage on your battery. Should be about 11 volts when off, and about 14 volts when the car is on. If its less than that, your battery will need changing soon.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

my car does that too -- if I wait for the autolock to engage though it actually starts faster. If I don't wait, it'll take a min for the car to start.

It's strange, it never happened in the past cars that I've had.

Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem - if it is a problem at all.

I first thought it was a spark plug problem - but got those replaced and it made no difference.

Actually a fully charged battery has 12.6v. The battery consists of six cells, each cell having 2.1v.

True enough. But when the engine is running the car ought to be running on the power generated by the charging system. That circuit should sense the slightly depleated battery and charge it. If the voltage is less than about 12.6 V then you are having charging problems in that the car is running on the batter alone or has a bad cell etc...
