5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I drove up to big bear lake to snowboard last weekend, and after putting on my chains (they're the better kind that wraps around with links and not actual physical chains.) I drove about 50 yards at about 10 mph and I heard some scraping. my Speedometer dropped to 0 mph immediately while I was still rolling at 10mph
My ABS sign lit up, the weird symbol with CHECK lit up, and my miles stopped being counted. I pulled over, and I felt something behind my front right tire, and it felt like shredded wires.
What can I do? I know my mileage stopped, my speedometer stopped working, and the ABS sign is worrying me. but on the plus side I can technically lie about my mileage now if I want to sell it for more, lol but that's morally and ethically wrong of me to do.
HELP, what do I do?!
I hate depending on my Garmin Nuvi 200 GPS for my mph lol!
sounds like u did some really nasty damage to your abs system lol. u are definitely sure u saw wires, right? what did u end up doing after u saw those wires? honestly it looks like something u wouldnt be able to do; it sounds like a pretty serious job to me, involving factory re-wiring
Probably ripped the wires out of your speed sensor.

dang it, it looks like I gotta bring my car into a dealer and get charged up the butt.
What can I do to get it fixed?
Also, I plan on going snowboarding in a couple months again, should I get it repaired after that trip? so that my sensor doesn't get cut again, or is it dangerous to drive with the lack of a speed sensor etc.
So your saying your cable snow chain broke and how did it come in contact with the electronic unit? is it located on the brake line.Oh wait back up you have chains and they came loose and whipped the shit out of everything. It only takes a couple of turns to do it bummer man sorry to hear that. Did you jack the car up and pull the wheel and look at it? I love Big Bear I use to go every chance I could way back when it was still a small town.
Remove the wheel and determine what wires were torn loose. Check to see if the brake line was damaged and anything else.
If a speed sensor the disconnected wires may have triggered the ABS light and set the Check light. If the wheel speed sensor is replaced all the lights may go out.
If only the speed sensor you can continue to drive the car but the ABS will not be operational.
i vote dont run chains anymore and get that fixed pronto!

The chains never snapped, they're the 80 dollar ones that are diamond-like, I think that these sensory wires were loose and caught onto the chains and snapped. When putting on those chains you don't have the chance to look behind the tire. =/
