5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My wife thought her water broke tonight. I was 45 minutes away....
So I floored it on the freeway with my hazards on. I have an I4.
I was doing about....(well, lets say a high rate of speed).......not to incriminate myself....I was safe...
My car has 3200 miles on it. When I parked I smelled something that smelled like, not burnt rubber, not burnt metal, not brake pads.....(cus I know what all these smell like).....
but more of a "hey you just broke me in" type of smell.....It was a "burnt something"....I just cant put my finger on it. Hot maybe??
you guys think this is normal or what? Any opinions other than I should get a V6?.....

Maybe just crap buring off the engine/exhaust cause it got really hot? I find mine (I4) smells like burning paint thinner/garbage when you first start it in cold weather, probably rich mixture, you get a richer mixture too when your driving hard, cat. converters dealing with it?
After several hours of high speed driving I pulled up to a buddy of mine's house. He said that he could smell everything coming from my car. There was nothing wrong with it of course.
No road kill, no volcano's ...didn't run over any poop.
I did indeed push it hard though, probably the hardest I've ever driven a car before. If I dropped a tranny, or if pieces just started falling off the car, then I'd be worried...Glad to see Camry's are tough. Cool, well thanks fellas for all the feedback. Just wanted to see if someone else ever smelled this before. I do appreciate it.

when they are brand new the engine and metal parts under the hood are coated with some anti rust stuff which burns off when the engine gets hot.. i smell this every time i test drive a PDI but the engine has to get pretty hot to burn it off. it will go away once its all burned off
