Your incorrect statement about a trade being bad for a deal is your answer to the question about behind invoice without a rebate. It's a numbers game using what they anticipate making on your trade. Having a trade isn't bad, so long as you get what you want as the bottom line.

For example, when we bought my wife's Sequoia I researched MSRP and invoice on the exact trim/packages we wanted. I then saw what they were selling for. I then used Kelly Blue Book, NADA Black, and a few dealership used car managers to found what our trade was worth. I took the best price I could find on the Sequoia and subtracted the value of our trade (I held title), minus another $2k and told the dealer that I was willing to write a check on the spot for $X. I knew full and well I was willing to go $X+1500 and feel like I got a really good deal. I ended up getting out the door for $X+250.

Understand the process, do your research and don't be impatient.
Now sure what you were saying about the trade in being correct/incorrect. But truely when your trying to get a fair price for your vehicle, and a new car for behind invoice, its not easy to do. Unless your willing to take under fair market value for your trade, I dont see the dealer losing money on the new car and overpaying on your trade. (unless you get some desk manager who had to much to drink at lunch and is looking to lose his job)

I actually sold cars for 6 years and knew all the in's and outs of the biz. The one thing that always bugged me was how many people believed that the salesman was making some killing when they sold the car for $500 over invoice. Thats actually what is called a MINI in the business... The salesman gets no comission but a set rate from the dealership ($100-$500 depending on the dealer, amount of cars they sold etc)

I took my car to two other dealerships and they both hit me at around $3,000 on the trade in. So getting $5,000 for my trade, and paying $300 over invoice I felt like I got a steal of a deal. Even though I know I could have paid less by ordering one from this fitzmall dealer in PA. I like spending my $$ locally if/when possible and also letting a friend get a few extra bucks for selling me a car doesnt hurt either.

I just picked up the car last night! It took a long time to finish up all the paper work. I didn't have time to post any pictures but that's what I'm planning to do at work today. I won't even be able to really work today since I'm so excited! Its my first brand new car! .

Anyways.. I left the dealer not feeling satisfied. They said they couldn't give me wheel locks since I got a "great" price for the car. They also wouldn't give us all season mats and told us that toyota doesn't even make them anymore!?!? I didn't feel like I got treated right.

I know they are correct about the all weather matts. They were recalled due to the matt coming in contact with the gas pedal and making the pedal get stuck. I was going to buy some out right at the toyota store here in Lexington and they said they'd been recalled. But I am sure they'll come out with a re-designed all weather floor matts for the Camry. The Camry is too popular of a car for them not too. You shoulda asked for an IOU since they are recalled for now and will more than likely be coming out with some more.

The new mats are out in some parts of the country.

Awesome, I knew it was just a matter of time. I can't wait to get my hands on some. The weather here is nasty and I cringe everytime I stick my dirty feet onto the carpeted floor matts. Granted my matt's are black, but, cloth is harder to clean than rubber.

If you are going to buy All Weather Mats then look at the ones at www.weathertech.com.
They have Floor Liners which are THEE best that I have ever seen for any type vehicle.

I would have got those myself except my car came with the All Weather Mats from Toyota. BTW: They cause NO problems for us at all.
They are perfectly fine. They just do not cover as much floor as the Floor Liners from WeatherTech.

Link: http://www.weathertech.com/store/mvp.aspx
(Hope that link works...it is for the 07 Camry which I would believe is the same thing as the 08)

Thanks for the links and the tips. It's a good thing they're not giving you any problems, but, I guess for some they were. I haven't experienced the phenomenon myself, I'm just sayin what I was told by the toyota guys. BTW, since they re-called these old matts like the ones that you have, you are technically eligible for a free upgrade to the newer re-designed matts. Just incase you want some new matts for free. It may be worth checking out.

I am going to ask them about it.
I want them to fix a rattle in the rear window from the JBL bass.
I always 'add up' things for them to fix or tweak.
They are real good to me...I am wondering what loaner I will get this time.
I think I will ask for a Avalon over the Lexus this time. I really like the Avalon's ride.

LOL. I do the same with letting things add up. Does the Avalon have a lexus engine in it? I hear the Avalon's engine is amazing.
