5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hey guys, i picked up an 07 camry about 3 weeks ago. this is not my first camry, i have had a 95 wagon and still have a 99 as well. the new camry is a le 6v. i was really pleased with the car when i first picked it up but it seems that the more i drive it the more it bothers me. the tranny seems to stick sometimes.. like i can feel the car really slowing down even after i let go of the brakes, or seems to stick in a higher gear starts to speed up on its own. also it feels a little slugish, when i do take off.. also when i am at a slow speed, around 20-40 the car shift hard. i herd there was a major recalls on the v6 tranny but when i picked it up the dealer said that my car was either built after that or the problem has been taken care of. oh and this doesn't happen everytime i dirve it either.

When was it built? The sticker is on the drivers door jam.

"Kinda Hard to ID in a Parking Lot"
Things just keep getting worse and worse. I picked up the car on friday, as soon as i left the dealer i noticed a problem. when ever the car was between 20 and 45 and was nearing 2k it would jump up to 2.5k and lurch back into gear. I called the dealer the next day because they were closed after i picked up the car, and told them what was going on. they said, its ok the tranny just has to settle in. on saturday, while driving around i noticed a hard bang noise while moving about 2-5mph.. i could feel the bang all the way through the brake paddle. this happend about 3 times that day, 3 time the next and 4 times today. So i decided to call toyota service center. all they did is take down what is going on, nothing else. so then i started calling around other dealer to see what they suggest. some said, well if you would have bought the car from us we would have just swaped it for you. others said they would have to do a trade in, in that case i would end up loosing a lot of money. on wendnday i am taking the car in so that a toyota tech rep can take a look at it. also so they can figure out what the hell is going on with the bang noise. does anyone have any advice for me. oh and the lemon law prosses will take months.
what sucks even more is that this car is a Tuscany edition. and the jbl sterio. and i would hate to loose all that.
The transmission will down shift or hold a gear after letting off the gas to try and maintain a constant speed, or even to try and slow the car down if you are breaking as well.
As for the 2K to 2.5K problem, thats the notorious flare issue which effects a good majority of the V6 transmissions.
this was not when slowing down.. when i was acceleration.. right as it would shift, the rpm would jump up as if i was in neutral and then slam in to gear..
so i have an update... i took the car in again.. and they went for a ride with me.. then lifted the car and found out that the tranny was not bolted up.. hmmm

Not to mention that the lemon law applies only to cars purchased new.
