5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My heater control will not switch to the floor setting. No big deal in the summer, but it does get a little cold in the winter here. I took it to my local dealer, charged me $90 to give me an estimate of $700 to fix. When I bought the car, it had the problem, the used car guy at the dealer fixed it no problem, but then it returned. Anyone know what it is??? My feet will appreciate it.
Didnt the dealer tell you what was wrong? Does it blow out the vents on the dash? It may be a "Mode" door. What year is your car?

The "Air outlet control servomotor(Mode servo)" is most likely the problem.
This is what directs the air to the position requested whether it be defrost, vents, floor, etc. The servo may not be moving the door all the way to the floor position, or something could be caught in the duct preventing it from moving to the floor position.

Crawl under the driver side dash to get to the servo

I have the exact same problem (and exact same model of Camry). I was able to reach my hand up under the driver's side dash and feel the servo motor. As I turn the vent control knob I can feel the servo "disk" apparently spinning cleanly through each of the settings. This leads me to believe that there is a blockage in the foot vent somewhere. Can anyone tell me where such a blockage might occur and how I can get my little hand up into wherever that may be?
Perhaps Toyota, with their ratings slipping, might consider launching a campaign to fix this issue!
Between surgery, the holidays and the weather, I haven't had a chance to fix mine. I do remember that the dealer said that the servo was making full travel.
I did get a new pair of wool socks for Christmas!
I also have a new problem, should probably post it elsewhere, but since I am hear...
I am getting a P0420 code...catalytic converter ya ya ya, when the mornings are below 40. If I reset the code, and we have a warm day, it does not come on until it gets cold again. I know there is a TSB out there for this one. All this just when I was thinking Toyota was better than Honda.
We are like Camry twins or something. Mine just started spitting out the P0420 too. I'm going to try to get it looked at this weekend to see if it's the cat. or a sensor.
Are you trying to sell yours? I'm trying to sell mine and I think it feels betrayed and that's why it's acting out
What a deal...I also commute 60 miles each way...ok, more like 58, but close enough!
On the P0420, was it a cold day? There is a TSB out there for the P0420 showing up when it is cold. The fix involves some gasket replacement, or something like that. Not sure what the TSB# is, but it is for 2002 Camrys with the 2.4L. Course, dealer won't fix that either.
Think you can buy a new Camry from Honda? They have better service!
No, I'm not selling...bought the car with 56K, now at about 140K and only these 2 problems (if you don't count the belt adjuster rattle...also not covered).
Before someone says it, I had an extended warranty, ran out about 10K ago.

Funny you should mention it. I just went back and looked and it was in the 30's all day that day. I'll have to look into that.
My car's almost at 125K and these are the only two problems I've had also.
