5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Shortly after purchasing my 2008 Camry SE, I had Ziebart tint the side and rear window. While driving at night I notice reflections of the headlights from the vehicles behind me on the Rear Defroster metal wires in the rear window. I see small reflected light directly above and below each headlight. The reflections go all the way up and down to the top/bottom edges of the rear window.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and what is a solution? I would like to have some solutions and possible corrections before returning to Ziebart and ask them to fix it under my lifetime warranty.

Reason: Corrected the Gen to 6
I am getting my windows tinted today on my 2008 SE, so I will be able to seeif I have the same problem tonight. What percent is yours tinted?
Let me know how yours turns out at night. I don't remember my percentage, but I know it is legal. I also told them I didn't want metalized tint, as it interferes with the Tire Pressure monitor signal coming into the car. Be aware of that.
I guessed at the Gen 7. I couldn't find out the difference between 6 & 7.
I noticed the same thing after I had my windows tinted. I thought they did a crappy job, but the place is well known for quality tinting. I took a look at my friend's windows and saw the same thing.
I think it's normal, you eventually won't notice it.

I don't know if our Camry has extraordinary defroster wires, but it isn't normal to have those problems. A good tint shop should be able to get those little air pockets out above and below the electical wires of the defrost system if they take their time.
As for the metallic tint interfering with the TPMS, So you are saying it's a wireless TPMS system and the metallic tint is EMI/RFI shielded?

I'm not positive on how it works, but know each wheel has a sensor on the inside of the air valve. You don't have a rubber air valve neck, but a metal one. (If you ever have tire work done and they put a rubber one on your wheel, that wheel has no sensor inside.) Maybe someone else on the forum can explain better how it works.
Any time you tint the rear window over the defroster wires you will get a bit of distortion and light scattering at night. If you feel that there is somthing wrong with the way the tint was applied, go back and talk to the shop. Ask to see other examples of there work, hopefully in low light so you can compare.
