Newb 08 SE 4 cyl 5-speed

Hi all,

I just drove home from the dealership in my brand new Magnetic Gray SE 2.4 with a manual gearbox. It's got a sunroof too. Not as fast as the Magnum 3.5 I traded in for it, but definitely more confidence inspiring in the handling department. I took a serious hit on trade in value for the Mag, but in the long run I think I made the right move.

So, I used to tune a civic back in the day. Are there any of you who have tuned the 2.4 engine in the new Camry? Intake, exhaust, fuel pressure, ignition timing, etc??? Looks like it's got a pretty good base to work with. What's available? What's recommended? Where do I begin to look? (besides just the "search" button?)

...why not just upgrade to the 6 cyl?...
With all of the negative equity from the Magnum, I was trying to keep the price down. I also was looking for something that would track better in the snow/ice/rain. Being from Arizona, ton's of hp was never a problem to put to the street. Now here in Maryland, I couldn't get the Mag to hold a line if there was any weather at all. I figured a little less power in the Camry, plus the 5-speed, would help me from spinning the tires all over the place. I put almost 100 miles on it yesterday (most while it was raining (freezing)), and despite a few rough shifts (still getting used to rowing the gears) the Camry was far above the Magnum in keeping me tracked. I'm glad I got the SE over the LE or CE. The extra features really make the car.

...and 4-cylinders are so much easier and less expensive to mod IMHO.

Thanks,
Ryan

congrats!
welcome to TN and nice choice of vehicle

where in MD are you and what dealer did u buy it at? i work for a toyota dealer in the area myself, russel toyota in catonsville.

as far as moddin g the 2.4, not too much is avalable....fujita and K&N make intakes for your gen 6 camry, and im sure some type of exhuast is avalible, but youre most likely on your own to go custom with mods....if i were you id get the TRD springs and intake and maybe an exhuast/rims and call it a day....the camry isnt heavily supposted in the aftermarket, but hopefully we should see some stuff for the gen 6 from RD in the near future. keep your eyes open and look around. im sure youll locate some worthwhile add ons to make your camry your own.

I'm in Columbia MD. I bought the car in Manassas VA. I've got a buddy in Colorado who works for Toyota corporate (some level?). He set me up with a friend he worked with years ago. My folks bought their Camry from Russel (R&H).

As a kid growing up in Baltimore, I went to summer camp with Melanie Russel. When I moved back to MD recently, it was kinda cool to see her on the TV adds. She's still really hot. I'm glad she's doing well.
