Possible Brake Problem

I have a 2007 Camry XLE. I had my tires rotated yesterday at the dealership. Now when i hit the brakes to slow down or to make a turn my car starts to vibrate and the steering wheel shakes. I know when you hit the brakes hard the abs kicks in. I called the dealership the service dept. tells me that I am braking hard and it is the abs. I have had my car for over a year and have never had this problem before.

Help please!

First pull over and check all the lug nuts. It would not be the first time someone forgot to tighten all the lugnuts. If they are tight, take it back to the dealership and tell them what you just said here; "that you have been driving this car for over a year and never had this problem before this rotation, so it's not the ABS."

+1

It's possible that they didn't tighten the lugnuts properly and the rotors are warped. It usually doesn't happen that fast though.

The initial problem went away, and I did a road trip from KC to SA over the holidays, and I kept on feeling a vibration on the steering wheel when I was braking on the highway to slow down. I hhve 27,300 miles on the car. I just took the car to the dealership they are looking at the problem. I went on a short drive test with a tech and he thought the rotors maybe warped. Is that covered under the warranty, I'm also very surprised that it happened so soon.

I had to get my rear brakes changed at 24k & 50k... but I do A LOT of driving in stop & go rush hour traffic...

58k miles later... I'm already on a new set of brake pads (all), rotors (all), & calipers (rear). I previously had that same vibration issues at 50k you had (on the freeway at freeway speeds) and it ended up costing me a $1600 brake job later.

I had a leak in my rear brake lines that went all the way inside my calipers, and forced them in the engaged position, prematurely wearing out my brake pads, warping the rear rotors... causing the front brakes to do most of the braking. So... that caused my front rotors to warp as well(Well that's what the service rep told me). Would have been covered by extended warranty, but I didn't buy it... Doh!

Anyway, I digress... Hey, is that black cloud still following my car around?

I have the problem you're describing.

If the rotors are warped, then it should be covered by the dealer.

In my case, I had my mechanic friend take a look first. Apparently my rotors are NOT warped but somehow on both front rotors, the surface is uneven.

Therefore, I get the vibration if I start braking lightly or moderately. If I brake harder, then there's reduced vibration.

Anyway...uneven surface will not be covered by warranty (I already asked). I'm just waiting for springtime. I'll have my mechanic perform either a full front brake job or rears as well at that point too.
