5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
just a quick question, is there a way to change the timing on the "Maint Reqd" light? As in, instead of flashing whenever it gets close to 5k, I can change it like 10k? The reason I ask is cause I use Royal Purple for my car and supposely Royal Purple's oil doesnt need to be changed until 12k
Question:
1. is there a way to change the timing for the "Maint Reqd" light to come on?
2. When should I change my oil? 5k, 12k? Though Royal Purple stats that they can last till 12k.

toyota reccomends intervals for oil changes at 5k
although syntehtic oils can be stretched to lifespans of over 10k, the life of the oil filter is sufficently less, so i would hold yourself to 5k intervals. oil filters are a vital part of engine life, and they fiilter the metal shavings and foriegn objects out of your cars oil and protect your engine. even the best synthetic oils are nothing without a clean oil filter every 5k.
you cant control when the light decides to come on. it is programmed for toyiota service intervals.
another quick question, to all TN users, which is better? I know its really all just opinions but I went to this one shop and they charge me more for Royal Purple compared to Mobil 1 but then the dealer is reverse, and they said that Mobil 1 is better than Royal Purple..any ideas? or is just business?

anytime.
oil choice usually prompts a debate here, since everyone has their own prefrence in oils....
alot of guys like redline, AMSoil, royal purple or mobil 1
personally i feel you cant go wrong with all of the above...

Please don't turn this into another oil thread.
