I would like to clean it but i wanna do it the right way. How do I go about doing that? What cleaner would you recommend? How long does it take? Maybe even some pics thanx
Help a newbie out! lol
I don't see any kind of a threat posted. Maybe your just insecure. I'm just pointing out how stupid your advice is. That's what you do though. Apparently you seek some kind of security by making others believe you know what you're talking about.
If you'd like, I can go through your posts again and show how you consistantly post bad information.
EDIT: Here's the link to your battery tips thread that you made. Included is a post by me showing some more of your stupid and incorrect replies.
I know you have some brain: you can use COMPUTER and you even can post - almost 2000 posts!!! Why do not you use this part of your brain to stop misleading people!
I know you are a good person and you do not realize that you do more damage than good.
Respectfully your,
Sam

Ok, I checked the write ups you guys set out above and got no real help. I can already clean the TB on my 98 I-4, but now have a 2005 I-4 (gen 5.5 with "fly by wire") and the arrangement is very different, as is the material (plastic vs. metal). Has anyone done a full pictorial write up on a Gen 5.5? If so I can't find it.

Go to your local auto parts store and ask the person for throttle body cleaner. Make sure it has a straw. Take the intake to throttle body hose off. Spray the inside of the body with blade closed till the dirt is running off and looks clean. Then hold the blade open with your fingers spray the inside till clean. NEVER NEVER WIPE OR ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY WITH A RAG OR CLOTH. All car makers coat the throttle body with a kinda sticky stuff to make the dirt stick to the outside of the throttle body. BECAUSE YOU ASK? No air filter traps 100% of the dirt. Clean every 4,500 miles to keep down the dirt.

You must get your information from the same place as marc780.
You can use a soft cloth/rag to clean the throttle body. It won't hurt anything. After spraying down the throttle body and throttle blade/plate, I soak a clean rag in the throttle body cleaner to wipe all the residue off.
Do not use a metallic object to pry open the plade or keep it open. You can easily use your finger.
The coating is NOT sticky. The coating is there to help fight accumulation, not attract it. It's usually a Teflon or laquer coating. Only a designated throttle body cleaner should be used, and it should state on the can that it will not harm any coating on the throttle body.
No air filter traps 100% of the dirt but the accumulation is mostly from the PCV system vapors (oil vapors) and fuel vapors.
Also, every once in a while the cleaner will drip down into the lower part of the T/B just cuz ours is setup where's its facing upwards. Saying this cuz it happened to me. When you first start your car it might sputter for a second just cuz it sucked in that cleaner, but that will only last a few seconds, Harmless.
