Cool Static charge

Hi Gurus!!

Whenever i step out of my Camry i get a shock ( static discharge) when i lock the car. Is there any way the static charge can be neutralised to avoid this..

You can use "cling" anti static fabric softener towelette to wipe down the door and seat areas. There are some spray on anti static versions out there too.

I have heard of people putting one of those static dryer sheets under their thigh on the seat. You could also hang an exposed bare wire from the metal frame under the car so it barely touches the street, as a sort of grounding wire.

When i find myself getting zapped (dry winter weather makes it worse around here), i hold the key in my hand as i twist to exit the car - as i stand up i touch the key to the door, holding the key with my fingers on the metal part to dissipate the spark so it doesnt zap me. You get to hear the little "crack" if you do it right but no shock.

someone needs to add more anti static sheets to their clothing when throwing them in the dryer. That usually does it for me. If I know I have stuff that clings (wool, sweaters, etc etc).

I grab hold of the door before exiting and continue to hold it until I'm out of the car.

Once out of the car and with my hand still holding the door, I shut the door; then lock with the hand-held.

This works for me.

Get one of those rubber grounding strips that hangs off the rear bumper of the car

I remember my old 93 Mazda MX3 has a little plastic thing (like a little dime sized bump) on the door panel that was called a 'static dissipator'. You were supposed to touch it to take care of the static electricity so you didn't get zapped.

with the static strap where do you ground it? Do you have to drill a hole?
