Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a Dunlop UHP Summer tire (225/45/ZR18) on my TCH ... not really a bad set - cushy, comfy, very little road noise and good traction on wet and dry roads. But I am thinking of swapping these out for the Goodyear Eagle F1 UHP - All Season, in 225/50/18. So why am I thinking of doing this?
1) Taller @ 50 aspect ratio
2) Longer lasting (All-season v Summer)
3) Even better ride (quieter and more comfy)
Here is the Goodyear
Here is the Dunlop
The tire shop (Discount) is willing to swap these out for me at the cost difference (~$50 / tire). Should I do it or not?

not sure on the gen 6 but im assuming with 18 inch wheels and 225 width tire that a 45 sidewall is closer to your stock diameter so no. i wouldnt do it. whatever is the closest to your stock diameter is what i would get..
For upsizing (from stock 16") on the Camry, Toyota recommended 225/45; 225/50 and 235/45 in 18" to keep the diameter close to stock. The diff is largest for the 225/50 at 2.7% slower odo reading, but its the tallest of the three options relative to stock and I need a tire tha fills the wheel well better than stock.
The Dunlop is a fabulous tire and I highly recommend it to anyone, however I have decided to go for the Goodyear Eagle F1. Test results show its a better tire in performance than the Dunlop - ride, noise, handling, cornering, steering response, dry and wet traction. Additionally, the Goodyear @ 225/50 is taller than the Dunlop (higher sidewall), higher rated (95Y v 91W) and should last longer (420 AA A v 300 A A). Can't beat all of that, hence the decision to swap out of the Dunlops. Putting it on tomorrow.

It will be softer and quieter. Though it will fill the wheel gaps better, there is a small draw back, it will make your rims apppear smaller. Overall, you will like it.

Had the new tires installed today.... With this new setup, I won't be lowering the car any longer. Looks good already. Next mods to come are changing out all interior lights to LEDs ... Just installed the chrome door sills. These mods never ends... or do they?
Before (Dunlop Durazzi 225/45/ZR18s) ..... notice the large gap?
After (Goodyear Eagle F1 225/50/ZR18) .... wheel gap much lower now

You modded your car exterior with the exact vision I have.
The only difference is the color. I actually selected those tires when doing my research. Now I'm in the process of tracking down some GS rims.

I have little steelie hubs right now. Once I have GS rims in hand, or on car, to be more accurate, I will be leaving the L logo in the center. The "L" is perfectly color matched already.

You should lower anyway. I'm running 235/50/18 lowered with no rubbing issues, especially in the rear end! Sooner or later, we'll need to meet up in front of a Toyota dealer so as to really confuse their customers on the hybrid options!

gap size might have decreased, but ride height is increased
