03 XLE driver's window "pinch protection" problems

Greetings fellow TN members,

I replaced my driver's side window after some punk busted it. Now I get this problem. Window is secured to the rails and everything lines up. Auto down feature works well. Going up is different story. As soon as the window is fully closed at the top, somehow the "obstruction sensing" or child pinch proof feature kicks in and brings the window down about 4 inches. The only way I can close the window is by flicking the up switch in baby steps. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
Thanks.

Yeah, there is a reset procedure that you have to do when replacing any of the power window components. If I remember correctly it involves running the window motor in the up and down for a certain # of rotations to let it know where the window limits are. Someone here with access to TIS should be able to find the procedure.

Sounds like it needs to re-initialized.

Download a service manual and follow the instructions.

"Jam" is the Toyota word for the auto up/down window protection.

Finally got to fix the window after a very thorough google search. Gen 5 service manual states nothing. Taken from another forum. I'll post it here FYI. There is no reset cycle of window down, up, power on, off, etc. You actually have to disassemble the motor from the regulator.

1)Remove glass
2)Remove regulator and motor assembly
3)Remove motor from regulator
4)Attach motor to electric connector
5)Turn key to accessory on position
6)Use power down window switch and engage auto down till motor stops
7)Mark one of the gears
8)Use master window switch and push button up in baby steps. Watch the gear make at least 6 revolutions but no more than 10.
9)Remove motor electric connection
10)Reassemble everything together & smile you got your window fixed.

By the way, my front passengers window stopped working at this time too.
You could hear the click of the window switch but nothing with the motor. I took apart the window, gave a solid strike with a hammer to the motor and voila... works. My rear left passengers window had the same symptoms a while ago so luckily this was an easy fix. Maybe this will teach us to at to bring down all windows at least once a week or so so the motor doesn't get frozen.

Cool man. I remember having this issue a few years ago and coming across the same damn problem finding the fix, and I was working at a dealer. The process is illustrated in some addendum to the manual, not in the manual itself (which is dumb). If memory serves they only had this process on a few model years; the newer models don't require this step for learning.
