5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was told by the dealer that the keyless entry (keyfob ignition) could be reprogrammend to open all the doors when the front door is touched. As a sales guy, that's a big deal because I always put my case in the back seat before getting into the driver's seat. Now I am back to using the keyfob to open the doors. The auto door unlock and keyless ignition was a big factor in purchasing the Camry. I can't believe there isn't an option to unlock all doors with a touch of the driver's door.

Anyone know why this can't be done?
Thanks

Your Dealer lied!!!!!!!!!!
You must have Smartkey.
You can have the dealer change the unlock button to unlock all the doors with one push rather than two.
Correct. I do have Smartkey and was told the computer could be programmed so the door touch sensors would open all doors. I took the two day old Camry in to the dealer this morning to get the door touch sensor to unlock all the doors and instead they reprogrammed the Smartkey BUTTON to open all doors with one touch, as you suggested... so I am back to reaching into my pocket to unlock the car. I apparently can not use the touch pad on the front doors to unlock all doors.
Too bad. Having to press the button really takes away from the reason for the Smartkey. I can see the safety aspects but, if I choose to have it unlock all doors that should be my choice. My friend's Corvette unlocks when he gets near the car.
I love the Camry though. Great car!!!

It can be done, but it must be programmed with the Toyota Intelligent Tester @ the Stealership!

Thanks. Are you sure about that, because I'd love to have it done? The dealer said it was not an programable. Maybe I should send a note to Toyota and ask them.
you still have to touch the front "touch-sensors" to unlock all the doors anyways, so to open the rear doors, you "touch" the front door handles and open the rear doors. but on the other hand, it's twice as fast as your current situation where you have to open the door and press "unlock" or touch twice. it also results in less double-beeps- those familiar toyota trademarks for your doors unlocking. lol.
edit: i didn't do it for my camry though, since i park my camry farther away than the prius. it's just a little bit more security and ocd. but nonetheless, it can be done for the camry as well.
Great news. I guess I will have to purchase the manual? I think I will call the dealer back and have him do it. Is the manual available on line? Sorry I am new to this site. I spend most of my time on Chevelles.

I got it guys. Thanks for the help. I programmed it in 30 seconds. I can't believe those dorks couldn't do it. It's a great dealership (and I hate buying cars). I think I will go by there tomorrow and take them a copy. It was way too easy.
