Gen5 convert non-jbl to jbl??

I have a gen 5.5 SE and the basic audio. What exactly do i need to change to the 6 disc changer?

Just the 6 disc audio head unit? Or do I also need the JBL amp? Can't find out with the search function.

And, no, I'm not interested in an aftermarket stereo under any circumstances.

It would be a lot more work than it's worth IMO. You'd need the external amp and a bunch of wiring to go with it.

Would you be interested in MP3 player instead of 6 disc changer? Instead of having 6 CDs, you'd have 1 CD with the tracks from 6 CDs in MP3 format? If yes, you could get a HU from a Scion and it would bolt and plug right up without any mods.

For people who have just the stock audio system, it's much better to build a new system from scratch - you will easily outperform the JBL anyway.

If you already have the JBL, then component replacements may be the best route.

There is just no point in trying to work with a stock setup.

Well, that sucks! I was hoping that I could just use the factory parts. I was trying to get the 6 CD and the XM, but it looks like that won't work.

With that out of the picture, what options do I have for a unit that will bolt up flush, look like it was supposed to be there AND keep the amber SE dash light theme going? Are there any for a reasonable price? I don't need performance, just a basic system. Instead of XM I'd be almost as happy with an audio input for my Zen MP3 player.

As said before, A Scion radio has MP3 function, bolts/plugs up directly, and has an Amber color theme.
