5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
it is on ebay and the guy said i can run it safe on my camry on 7 psi but other forums i have heard that who ever installed a turbo charger ended up blowing up there motor.... is the motor just weak to handle a turbo kit on that low 7 pound boost? and i need to get a custom manifold where can i go to get the custom manifold for the turbo... i need to get my own custom manifold and if i were to get this kit you think id have to touch the computer for the fuel system or anything like that..? i am new to installing turbos on cars my pops is a mechanic but um he has never installed a turbo kit lol but my only concern is i don't want to end up with a blown motor after installing the kit... any information would be greatly appreciated
Let me get this straight. You are willing to pay $1k for a turbo kit of unknown manufacture with no source ever for replacement parts should they be needed. You are willing to absorb the expense of installation and fabrication of custom parts to plumb it into the car, perhaps another grand or more. After all this, it is safe to run it with a half atmosphere of boost, and you are concerned you might blow the engine? Talk about a no brainer. Hell man, for that kind of money, you could have had a V6! And a warranty!

gdanaher yes i am willing to .. because this car was passed down from my dad to me any who i was just wondering man i am tired of the slow crap at least with this kit it will be like a 6 cylinder car i love the car its really good but for the longest time i wish it was faster and this is the chance to do it but i have heard people turbo charging there camry and ended up with a blown motor but idk i emailed this guy and he says i just need to get a custom manifold exc... the installation i got that covered. i just want the thing to be fast you feel me on this dont you
Heres what you are not understanding from a previous post.
Yes, people do turbo their Camrys. BUT they know where the hell the parts actually come from. Have experience in the past with these aftermarket parts--installation. Fully understand what may happen to their mechanically, besides, "it goes whoosh."

No, I don't feel you. There is likely a suitable turbo system available out there somewhere. Find it and install it. Don't buy a no-name system from a guy on eBay. Spend at least $8k. Get it done right. Then you can blow the engine. If somehow you think you can bolt an eBay POS to your car and have it work like a V6 and be reliable, then I need to talk to you about 700 acres of soon to be shore line property in Loving County, Texas.

You sir are an idiot. If you want your car to be like a V6...then get a V6. Since you apparently have the intelligence of a 15 year old, why don't you go explore something worthwhile. Like....Legos
You don't know where this thing is even coming from. This kind of situation. I wish you'd paypal them then they'd send you a picture of the turbo you wish you had. That's it, just the picture. And just like others said. If you can spend that amount of $, then go custom. Make it worthwhile and make sure it works, instead of shooting into the breeze. If you blow your engine, i hope someone you know says...TOLD YOU SO!

Failure
I would give him another year and say an intelligence of a 16 year old since he knows what a turbo is... although I doubt he knows how a turbo functions...
I'm sure he has the basic concept.
He just doesn't realize realistically how much a quality one would cost.
IMO, if he wants a car that has the feel of going quick. Ditch the " slow Camry," buy a cheap ricer, and spend the leftover money+what he's willing to pay to upgrade it...

Aceventura hey long time :-) how's the cam anything new since I been away I remember talking body kits etc
But ya kid you won't get any decent turbo for that kind of money I didn't even look at the ebay link heh. To get V6 specs you will have to spend at least 2-4 grand to get any kind of reliability and thats if you really fish around for your parts and do most of your installation and get custom fabs. done cheap. I seriously looked into doing a turbo on my I4 this summer and let me tell ya unless you want to stand out with you I4 turbo just with the name and sound it won't do ya much good with the price needed to drive it even half reliably because you'll screw up your engine. With a turbo don't forget fuel management and all the extras if you want decent power, without those maybe you can slap on a little hp safely but with the price it's not worth it might as well go with all the details.
Just my .02 good luck,
ps. guys, don't put down young guys in here rather give them pointers where to learn and how it works. I started here a while back with my car and got some crap from people but never failed at a project whether it'd be electrical, suspension, sound etc just give them hints and eventually they'll realize to read up on it after they get stuck a couple times :-)
we're all here to learn just some people take a little extra to get there
be ezy guys, nice to be back for a little during my break
