Gen6 HID Kit Help and Mods

Hey what's up everyone, I'm kinda new to this forum so please take it easy on the bashin haha. I got my Toyota Camry LE around march 2007. I've haven't done any mods to it because of lack of funds. Just got a few questions I was hoping someone can help me out with.

1) Can someone help me identify what manufacture brand this HID kit is from? I got it as a present from my friend who purchased it in Taiwan. I have no idea what brand it is, and I just wanted to google it to see if it's a crap or decent kit to use.

2) Does anyone have any HID installation tutorials they can send me? I'm pretty inexperience with cars and I'm kinda afraid to touch the wrong things.

3) What is a relay harness and does it look like I have it in my kit? and also what's with people saying your ballast or some containment melting or burning?

Just to let everyone know, I did read a lot on these forums about HIDs, I got the kit as a present and I just wanted to plug it in and play around with it and at the same time learn more about how my car works. If it looks good after I install it, I'm definitely going to try to block the squirrel spotters. I doubt i have the money for retrofit.

4) Is it easy to return back to OEM halogen installation, I.e. Is it easy to uninstall the HID kits?

My cousin got me 8000k despite telling him I liked the 5000 or 6000's range... I really want that pure white light look...

5) Are the color temperatures plug and play, like can i just purchase a 5000k and swap it up?

--------------------------

After this mod I plan to change the rims, I got a free set of GS300 rims. Saw lammydi's car and I really like how it looks despite everyone telling me chrome is way to showy and shiny.

Hope you guys can help me out! Thanks

Heres a few quick responses.

- You can spend a couple minutes and search for DIY HID threads. Or you can head to www.hidplanet.com where they further explain this topic.
- HID bulbs are interchangable. Still need h11s for low-beams
- People suggest that you get an upgraded harness instead of using the existing one, due to the fact that HIDs send a momentary high discharge in firing the lights.
- If you got a low-quality ballast, be prepared for it to burn out. Hopefully, your manufacturer has a warranty.
- Do the responsible thing and either install a cut-off shield, or retrofit. You bulbs will be shooting off a lot more lumens vs. halogen-- blinding other people via squirrel spotters.

Check you rims. They may be staggered. Most people who opt to use Lexus rims, use 18X8.0, or 18X8.5 all around..

If there is anything people want to correct me on, please do.

thanks for the response

- most of the thread i read are for retrofitting or hiding the squirrel spotters... i guess it's probably too common knowledge of just hooking up the hid, I know how to install the lightbulbs but i'm not sure about the connections to the battery. but thanks anyways
- you said get an upgraded harness instead of using the existing one that came with the kit? or with the car itself?

Well, that kit itself may not be that great, but it'll look half decent in the Gen6's stock halogen projectors. That means, that your '07 Camry has stock projectors that have a cutoff beam already, but squirrel spotters are still evident. It may look alright, but glare a bit due to it being an aftermarket kit plus the squirrel spotters.

It's not going to be hard to install, you just gotta plug the right spots in and mount the ballast securely.

The harness is jsut required if your HIDs end up flickering or if one turns off once in a while.

It is going to be easy to go back and change back to stock.

8000K would look somewhat blue/purple, but yeah, you typically can just buy a 5000k or 6000k bulb from the manufacture.

thanks for all the advice from the forum. just wanted to show you guys some pictures from the install.

Questions:
1) on the first picture of the squirrel spotters, the hid side doesn't look any brighter then the halogen box, should it still blind people? I'm making a guess that the 8k isn't as bright so hopefully it won't blind people?

2) If I stand in front of my car, and start to look downward. I notice my left side glares first and then the right. that means my left side is aimed a bit higher but I couldn't really figure out how to aim them. the bulb is pretty snug in the socket.

3) my left light flickers when it turns on while the right side turns right on without even warming up... is that normal? if it continues, I might consider relay harness for the left side.

conclusion: I tested the lights on a rainy day on the highway since people said the blue hue will strain your eyes and I gotta admit it kinda did but it wasn't that bad. I got this as a present, but I think I'm going to switch to 6k, I prefer the white light then pretty blue color. I'm going to test run a few more days and decide whether to go halogen or keep them on till I get 6k bulbs.

comments: it was so freaken hard for me to find a place to mount it on the camry but I managed to find a place. there's two zipties on each ballast so it should be pretty secure.

Dont worry about the squirell spotters.

Do your self a big favour and pickup a relay! Your lights won't flicker anymore.

And yes just swap the bulbs for a different Colour Temp.

Eh... don't give bad advice, dude.

Yes, you should cover the squirrel spotters. You cannot tell by parking that close to a wall how bright it is. You all have to consider intensity and lumens. I promise you that you'll be blinding others if you don't cover the spotters. I can tell you first-hand as I've had a Gen 6 with HIDs driving behind me before with the squirrel spotters uncovered.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

Eh... not sure if its your kit thats the problem, or if this is an issue with the stock halogen projectors, but there are A LOT of hot-spots right in front of your car, and they shouldn't be there.

It's not the stock halogen projectors that created those hot-spots. My car with HID kit (covered squirrel spotters) doesn't have those hot-spots.

This is the first time I've seen hotspots on a Gen6 with an aftermarket HID kit.

thanks for point out the hotspots for me. BUT I think they are only there because I was right under a yellow street light. Atleast that's my guess because I didn't see the hot spots in the garage.

i'm going to take my car out to a completely dark area and see if the hotspots are still there, i'll let you guys know...

p.s. lammdi and epsilon i love you guy's cars, great style =D

Those hot spots aren't from the street light. Were you inside the car when you looked at them in the garage?

ok hotspots are confirmed, i tested in garage again and it was cause i was pulled up so close to the wall that the hotspots didn't show up. but once i pulled back from the wall about the distance you would keep from car to car and the hotspots appeared.

i have no idea how it's showing up, i think it's some reflector thing gone wrong. if i used my hands and cover the very bottom of the glass of my headlights, the hotspots are gone. I've even tried removing the bulb and reinserting but still the same.

p.s. my left headlight didn't turn on when it was suppose to, today. soo i'm really getting the relay harness, hopefully it fixes it.
