So today i removed my K&N air filter and re-installed the stock filter to see if i would get better gas mileage with it than the K&N. With the K&N i have been getting roughly 380 miles to a tank of gas. 380/16=23.75 my I4 should be doing better than that. So im going to do my own test before i start complaining to the dealer. While i was removing the K&N i happened to look in the top of the air box and saw, what looks to be like another filter. Has anyone else noticed this? What exactly is it? What would be the advantages/disadvantages of removing that?

Do you drive mostly city? I get around that many miles on 14.5ish gallons... but then I drive highway for the most part... as for the second "filter"... it's an acoustic sound dampener to keep the intake quiet... I had mine removed b4 i went to SRI
no. i drive a decent mixture of highway/city. i'll also keep a log of how many miles i drive city and highway in my test. i still have 1/2 tank of gas to burn then i'll fill up and see what happens. The car should adjust back to the stock filter by then.
i'm averaging 25-25.5 on my se v6 and i have a lead foot. i think your calculating it wrong. try this. fill up your tank full then reset your trip meter to zero. drive as usual then when it's time to fill up again, then fill your tank fulll again. now look at how much gallons you just filled up and divide it by the trip meter reading. that should provide you with a more accurate reading.

As stated above, first you should check your mileage properly. You can't do an experiment with inaccurate information and expect to get an accurate result.
I'm sure that you'll find there really isn't any difference between your factory filter and the K&N. I doubt there is anything wrong with your car. If there was, your MIL would be on.
More than likely it's your driving conditions and driving habits that are responsible for your fuel mileage.

No... i think what he mean was that he's currently doing his experiment and he still have a 1/2 left to go before he needs to fill up
i did fill up and i did reset the trip, and i always seem to get 380ish miles when the gas light is on and the needle is at or below E. i dont think i drive it hard, just normal. gear changing at 3k or below normally. auto tranny.
Speaking of air filters, what is the part number of the TRD filter that can be used for the 07 Camry? Some sites only show a filter for up to an 06 model, while others show a filter that will work in an 07 as well.
