08 Camry XLE V4 Oil Filter

Hey Everyone,

I have an 08 Camry XLE v4 and for the love of christ I can't get the oil filter off.

The only tool that I thought would work well is one of those large oil filter sockets. I bought the one that fits the filter but it just slips each time.

How do you guys get this thing off?

I dunno dude....I think you bought a Chinese manufactured fake. Throw it away before it kills you because Toyota doesn't make a V4 engine for Camry.

Maybe take a few pieces of that paperboard stuff that the filter comes in and put it along the edge of the cap wrench to make the fit tighter. How you get the filter off the cap is on you. That's what I did when the filter on my I4 was stuck

I used a conventional oil filter wrench the first time but it was very tight quarters so I bought a fluted, grip type that slips over the filters cap.

It is tightened up well from the factory..........

This has been covered a dozen times in the last 20+ months.

USE THE SEARCH function!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend you purchase and use this Lisle oil filter wrench. It actually gets tighter the harder it turns. Most auto parts stores carry this filter wrench. Also, make sure you are seated properly on the filter with the cap wrench you have now. I have found if you push up just slightly before trying to turn the filter, the wrench sometimes seats better on the filter.:

PS: If your cap type filter slips, you most likely have the wrong size.

are you sure ur not pulling on the blinker fluid filter? That requires a $5000 tool to remove. If you dont even know what kind of engine you have, then god knows u should take it to a mechanic for an oil change.

yes you have an INLINE 4, not a V4....nothing has had a V4 since 60's and 70's era saabs
at your auto parts store theyll have a tool like posted above or one thats a full circle shape and spring loaded...they will fit a 3/8ths drive and are used to clamp down on the filter and loosen it...its called a "claw"

I did the same thing, except with sandpaper to give it all the grip possible - worked fine. Anyone know why the factory puts them on that tight? They are supposed to be hand tight, then another quarter turn, according to the directions on the filter.

Because it's faster to put it on with an impact gun than to do it by hand.

True, but the torque on an impact gun is variable, right?
