i replaced my whole tail light (on an Gen 5) and it had a little trap door in the trunk with a few screws holding it in....never looked at the Gen 6 trunk but it might be the same, have a look around in it, you might find it easy to get out

you need to remove the bumper to get to the bolt holding the bottom of the outer tail lights in. I think it's just 1 bolt in each wheel well and the 1 on each side of the trunk near the lid. Then it's just a matter of pulling the bumper out of the clips. Trunk lights have 3 nuts and 2 clips if I remember correctly.

Thank you for your reply. I quess you do have to remove the bumper to change a tailight lense. My Toyota dealer and their body shop both said that you did not have to. I checked the manual late last night and sure enough you do. I also tried to change it last night and there are the two clips that you mentioned that you can not get to from inside the trunk. Its another case of car engineers making 6 fiqure salarys that can aford to have other people work on them designing these things. Thanks again for your reply, I guess I know what my Sunday is going to be like.
