5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just came back from a Trip to the Philippines. Observations for the local Camry (sorry no pics)
*HIDs standard, LED tails (ring arrangement; think of a G37)
*front and rear parking proximity sensors, with visual output in the instrument cluster. The little car diagram you get when a door is open is used. Small "parentheses" is used to denote an object closeby to any of the four corners.
*electric retractable sunshade in the rear window
*manual sunshade for rear passengers (mounted inside the interior door trim)
Good info. I assume the Phillippines Camry actually has the front and rear of the aurion - same as in the pictures earlier in this thread?
yep. I'm very curious if some of these accessories could be carried over. ie., parking sensor and the side window sunshades.
Unfortunately, most body and interior parts are just enough different to require replacements to make it work. I am just not understanding why very common and useful add-on options are not made available in the US aka Park sensor, headlight pressure washers, mirrors with turning lights..and not to talk about HID. These are all very practical things and not just for fun.
I couldn't imagine driving the Camry with a 2.0L engine, unless it has some newer tech which brings the HP and torque closer to the 2.4L and further away from the 1.8L Corolla engine.

No, nothing special - 2.0L has much less power and torque. It is fit to the market - most of these are used for city drive only and that is slow and stop and go....have you seen Shanghai streets? China also changed the law and you pay for large engines much more...just to get the car registered and titled you need to participate in a lottery (restricts the number of new cars on the streets) and the ticket costs 4kUSD and up!

in some asian cities, 2.0L is a big engine already, especially when the traffic is so bad that you can barely go up to 50kph (35mph). most cars there have engine displacements of 1.3-1.8L and the funny thing too is that they mod the hell out of it, only to realize that our stock still goes faster than their modded ones
but like what tobeit said, it fits the market. they dont have the long highways/freeways that we have here in north america, thus they dont really have a need for greater displacement

Yeah, I had a hard time to get a 2.4L A6 - all they had was 1.8T and 2.0L. China does have highways, but these are predominantly used by (old, rusty) trucks and normal people would not dare to drive long distances across China in a car..at least I don't Car modding is not much a topic (yet) in China either (but many other Asian countries as Moky mentioned)...but utterly large amount of S-Class Mercedes, 7'er BMW, and LS Lexus...
