Gen5 Cruise control problem

Hey everyone,

The cruise control on my 02 is exhibiting some strange behavior. It won't engage on highway speeds (~70s), but it will on lower speeds (~40s). Sometimes this switches, but the majority of the time I am unable to use cruise control on the highway. To be clear: all superficial cruise control settings are able to be turned on, but when setting a speed, it won't stick. The car immediately decelerates.

On a related note, people have told me that my brake lights seem to be on when I am driving (and not braking, obviously).

Thanks for any help you can give,
Sam

With your brake light being on while driving, Thats the problem.

The brake stoplight switch, located at the top of the brake pedal either needs to be adjusted or replaced.

That switch also disables the cruise control.

Thanks. My brother-in-law is a new mechanic at a Subaru dealership and suggested the same thing. I'll take a look. Do I need anything special to adjust it?

Shouldn't need more than basic handtools.
